Pope attacks 'culture of death' Sunday, January 8, 2006; Posted: 10:53 a.m. EST (15:53 GMT) VATICAN CITY (Reuters) -- Pope Benedict XVI performed the first baptisms of his pontificate on Sunday, using the occasion to launch an impassioned denunciation of irresponsible sex and a "culture of death" that he said pervaded the modern world. The pontiff, abandoning his prepared sermon, compared the wild excesses of the ancient Roman empire to 21st century society and urged people to rediscover their faith. "In our times we need to say 'no' to the largely dominant culture of death," Benedict said during his improvised homily in the frescoed Sistine Chapel where he was elected pope last April. "(There is) an anti-culture demonstrated by the flight to drugs, by the flight from reality, by illusions, by false happiness ... displayed in sexuality which has become pure pleasure devoid of responsibility," he added. A CNN "duh" moment.
Looks like he let go, and let God.
Awesome.
Dang! When I read the title I thought for a moment that the pope was talking about Islam.
I thought he was talking about islam.
I thought he was talking about us wanting to kill all the Nuskims!!
Nuskims=Muslims
Cnn and rooters would NEVER consider islam - culture of death. Silly me.
I agree with this man more everytime I read something he has communicated. This is EXACTLY what the modern culture reminds me of. Morality is stood on its head.
Seriously, it still cracks me up when I remember the days after Pope John Paul II died, when the liberals were calling for a "liberal" pope, as if absolute right and wrong really were something to vote on. "Please, please give us a Pope who'll tell us that buggery and pre-marital sex is ok! Please!"
Among people to whom children are a threat come to live the Muslims, who put their trust in God and produce heirs.
It does seem foolish, to rely on a fellow human to give someone spiritual guidance/advice.
