I doubt that I will ever pay for radio.
Howard Stern is a complete joke, and living proof that you don't need to have a speck of talent to be successful in this country.
I've never heard Stern referred to by that name, but . . . or did you mean . . . . nevermind.

i thought that too, but then realized I was paying for tv because free tv was so bad. And I don't watch much tv. But when I do I want to see something decent. Same with radio I guess.
I havent gone to pay radio yet, but "free" readio is so bad it seems inevitable to me. I'm talking about the constant drone of adds (ever sat through a 10 minute ad break to listen to the next 5 minutes of programming?), and the constant talking down to me like I'm an idiot. I swear most radio program directors are 15 year old girls. Trying to listen to music on the radio is painful, so I'm left with talk radio...but even talk radio has been overran with Advertising and chattering/screaming/giggling idiots.
I suspect that by the end of the decade we'll be pushed or pulled into paid radio.
howard is getting 500 million for 5 years and about 200 million in stock for his show. Sounds like a great american success story to me. Don't listen to him, don't like him, respect his ability to turn little talent into huge bucks.
It will cost me less than $10/month for the next year.
I can use it in the car, in the house or while jogging. It has a 5 hr buffer so I can use it in a cave.
Out of the 140 channels, I find myself listening to just 3. All in all, I love it. It has something for everyone.
Best of all, I get to listen to FoxNews while driving to work in the morning.

That's the way I think too. But then again years ago who would have thought we'd ever pay for TV - and still with advertisements?

I don't really think Stern is a particularly bad guy in and of himself, but he certainly is doing PR work for the anti-christ, by pandering to people with the mental and sexual-emotional maturity of a 16 year old boy.

They don't even pretend on the weekends -- they have a 'Real Estate' advice show hosted by the advertisers on the show. Any real estate question can be answered by simply calling their toll-free number. Complete crap.

Satellite Radio Killer!
I bought my XMs (have one older vehicle installed and a newer MyFi portable) because a lot of the places I go, I can't get any terrestrial reception, (other than some Mexican station blasting a quarter million watts over the border) and like to keep up with what is happening in the world.
So, I didn't buy it to 'get away from ads' but to be able to keep informed when I'm out in the middle of nowhere. If subscription prices would go down, I wouldn't mind at all if they started running ads on the music channels that I rarely listen to any way ;-)
