I always thought the Grateful Dead hired the Hell's Angels for $500 in beer to do the security, since they had some association with them. The Stones just took the heat, cause they were on the stage when the murder took place.Playing Sympathy for the Devil didn't help matters much.

Yes. It was the Dead who hired the Angels in the first place.

Remember earlier that day, however, when Marty Balin from Jefferson Airplane busted an Angel's nose.

The Dead didn't play Altamont. It was the Jefferson Airplane that had the Hells Angels connection, I believe.

The Dead actually were a house band for the Hell's Angels or the Angels always showed up at the shows for years. That might have been to harass all the hippy deadheads who the Angels despised.

The concertl included the Rolling Stones and other bands including the Grateful Dead , Jefferson Airplane, The Flying Burrito Brothers, and Ike & Tina Turner. Not everybody's performance was in the film "Gimme Shelter".

It wasn't the 60's finest moment but then again, nothing lasts forever.

It sure gave us a taste of what the seventies were going to be like, didn't it?

Fifty-four/6'1"/195lbs and pass the Army PFT every year on my birthday. My oldest is 30 and UI can bury most of his friends in just about anything (not him though, he's in pro shape).

Grace probably had somethimg to say on the matter, but it was Paul Kantner who made the comment recorded in the movie.

That might have been to harass all the hippy deadheads who the Angels despised.

According to Sonny Bargers' autobiography, the Angels showed up for the chicks and the dope.

Rock Scullys' book backs up the account.

The Angels seemed to hate the "long-hairs",hippies,etc, but were buddies with the Airplane,Big Brother,Janis, etc. Odd.
