WASHINGTON -- A New York Times journalist, who was attacked Friday night while walking in Washington, D.C., has died.

D.C. Police Sgt. Joe Gentile said David Rosenbaum was pronounced dead Sunday night at 7:10 p.m.

Rosenbaum was being treated for a head injury following the attack. He was beaten from behind and his wallet was stolen.

Gentile said the case is being treated as a homicide, pending autopsy results. There are still no suspects in the case.

A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered to anyone who has information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the attack.

Rosenbaum, who worked for the Washington bureau of the New York Times for more than 30 years, was 63.

Somehow, the fact that he worked for the Slimes seems remarkably irrelevant to the story.

Obviously the "youths" in Washington DC need more federal benefits and jobs so that they do not take out their frustrations on the media. I expect the NYT to take up their case.

In the New York Times? Not likely.

Friday, Dec 16
Rails, Froomkin, and the NYT

Some notes today:

* Because it's been a crazy week, we forgot to blog earlier about the New York Observer's excellent article on the drama inside the New York Times Washington bureau. Highlights: #1 Phil Taubman asked #2 Kate Phillips to leave on his own; Jeff Gerth and David Rosenbaum have both applied for NYT buyout package;

Very nice of a Gentile to help Rosenbaum.

Just goes to show, crime affects liberals, too.

(Think he had been leaked the Barrett Report and this was easier than taking him to Fort Marcy Park? Or will the leak investigation lead to this guy, where it all dries up?)

What was this guy doing wandering around in D.C. AT NIGHT?

Geesh!

It says he worked for the D.C. office for 30 years.

Was this a secret death wish?

God bless him.

Does anybody know what story he was working on?

It's a sad day when that's the first thought that comes to mind.

He was beaten. Simple, just ban all hard objects that could be used for beating someone ... Therefore and Henceforth, only soft objects will be legal ...
