I rode the monorail many times last time I was in Vegas. I found it a bit more economical than taxis though a lot less convenient... the stops tend to be rather far from the hotels. I mean, at the MGM Grand stop, you've got a half hour walk through a mall before you reach the actual hotel.
Nevertheless, it seemed like a decent system. But the brochures touting it were quite proud of the fact that it was entirely privately financed. If it's going to tank, the investors should be the ones who lose their shirts. The public shouldn't be forced to bail it out.

It goes to show mass transit is a white elephant. There are the glowing promises of big jumps in ridership, profitability and reduced auto congestion. It never happens.
