I had the privilege of meeting Joshua Sparling's father and brother at yesterday evening's FReep. (History of Joshua here.) They came down to meet us, and Joshua was kind enough to send some candy and other goodies down for our supportive vigil. More details will be in the weekly AAR, but I wanted to touch on one point.
Although the response to Joshua's predicament has been absolutely overwhelming, they have only received six cards - total - from Michigan. Why is that such a big deal? It's Joshua's home. And he's been featured in several newspapers, including Lansing's publication.
I just wanted to put out a friendly request to any Michigan FReepers to send Joshua a card - a belated Christmas card, a get-well or thank-you note, or a simple letter. Just to let him know his home state is aware and appreciative of his family's sacrifices.
Thinking of including a phone card? NO!! :-) His family said they have been completely overwhelmed by phone cards. They're very grateful, but don't need anymore. If you want to include something, FReepmail me for one idea. Thank you for your support, and thanks to JimRob for providing us this amazing forum.
Picked-up a card this afternoon. It will be in the mail tomorrow. Happy to pitch-in.
Thank you so much for doing this. I am from MI and I guess I was one of the six! I can't wait to see how MI responds after your ping.
No problem!
I'm floating in and out and saw that no one else did it.
Happy to help.
BTW, my girls and I are sending cards on Monday. Homeschool lesson!
Thanks for the Michigan ping! It will be my honor to send Joshua a card. I will mail one to him on Monday.

Thanks for the ping Coop. A card will be going out tomorrow.
Aside: What's the latest on Joshua's legs, Coop?
Thanks for the ping, your links in post #29 (great) and all that you do.
BTTT! for Joshua.

Thanks for all your assistance, Bill!
OK, a card will go out tomorrow! Thanks for the ping....
Thank you for caring!
His father said yesterday Joshua was up to 22 surgeries now, but they were still hopeful he'd keep his leg. He also mentioned that Joshua hoped to join us for a Friday evening counterprotest in 2-3 weeks. That leads me to believe he's got a positive attitude about his recovery.
Thanks!
That's good news. Thanks for the update (still praying, though).
Thanks for the ping. A card will be on the way tomorrow.
Thank you very much
Very good point. Thanks for the postage increase reminder.
I'm praying that he will keep his leg and be home soon with family and friends. I was one that sent a phone card. Guess we kinda overwhelmed him with them. I think I read in another thread that they were sharing them with others, which is great. I'm in Arizona. I hope AZ was one that let Joshua know how much we appreciate him (and all the others at Walter Reed).
