Senator proposes restricting sale of cold beer (Missouri)

As state Sen. Bill Alter sees it, a cold beer can be dangerous.

And he's got 11-year-old Kristen Bogert to back him up.

Alter, R-High Ridge, introduced a bill in the Missouri House this week that would bar groceries and convenience stores from selling beer "that is refrigerated below 60 degrees."

Alter said Friday that his aim is to discourage drunken drivers - although the bill doesn't restrict cold beer sales at liquor stores.

Alter deferred questions regarding that omission to the person he said was the real author of the bill: Kristen, a fifth-grader at Cedar Hill Intermediate in House Springs.

Perhaps Alter's paycheck should be given to Kristen, the little legislator behind this initiative.

Kristen said in an interview that she was targeting sales of individual cans or bottles of beer... she didn't think such sales to drivers were a good idea. She omitted liquor stores only because, "I just didn't think of that."

regular miller or budwieser has to be cold.

Colder dulls the sense of taste allowing a cheaper beer to be sold. This law will just encourage better quality beer.

The appropriate serving temperature for English beer is cellar temperature (about 55-60 deg. F). Unless you keep your house pretty cold...

Now there are plenty of places in the summer that serve the beer a lot warmer than they should, mainly because many pubs still don't have refrigeration in the cellar. But the beer does go bad a lot faster that way. (Cask conditioned beer is fragile stuff.)

Or they paid him to get rid of the competition. You can store Bush beer at room temp, or above. Coors and some specialty beers must be kept cool or they skunk.

(Yeah I thought it sounded crazy until I tried it. Coopers Sparkiling has the strenght, taste, and CO2 level to handle it)
