One of President Bush's most reliable allies in defending the war in Iraq and the global war on terrorism is writer/pundit Christopher Hitchens. The Vanity Fair columnist and former socialist would almost be a card-carrying libertarian if it weren't for his hawkish, interventionist foreign policy. I talked to him by telephone from his home in Washington, where he's starting work on his next book, "God Is Not Great."

Another one that gets it...
Steyn and Hitchens...both of England...and yet can "see" America's place in the world and the wars...so much better than many Americans can...
And infinitely better than our American "heros" like Kerry and Murtha.
Speaking of writers, did you get a chance to look at the Levin and Lowry articles?
He gets it, and because of his brilliance and his remarkable talents at speaking and writing, he is a valuable ally. But let's not forget that at heart he is a leftist and an atheist. We should pray for his conversion.
Common sense is enlightening.
Sitting down for a couple of pints with Steyn and Hitchens would be a wonderful thing, would it not?
I know how you feel...I love to see him discuss this subject..and debate it..
But, I am never deluded into thinking that he is a conservative...but, you have to admit that with Hitchens, he doesn't even try to make anyone think he is anything but what he is.
Refreshing after watching politicians, right??
Which is what really stokes his fires. Hitchens is on the same side of the Iraq War debate as religious conservatives not because he is sympathetic to the religious conservative agenda. Far from it. He despises Christianty. He is on the same side because he despises and fears Islam even more than he does Christianity.
I had written them down to read..and forgot...thanks for the reminder...
They were both interesting...but, I just think that Lowry doesn't like Delay...and doesn't care if he is innocent or not at this point.
the enemy of my enemy is my friend
I hadn't thought about it that way, but Lowry does have an elitist attitude. Maybe a guy like Tom who is self-made and has had to fight his way to success, is not Lowry's kinda guy. The more I think about it, the more sense it makes,TX.
Well, Tom's my kinda guy and I'm not quitting on him.
LOL...I could see where an "elitest" might not be a Delay fan...after all, he had a pest control business...and he and his wife have been active foster parents...
NOT the kinds of people that one rubs elbows with in Washington society circles, I am sure...
Damn straight.
Hitchens is the only person from the left who had the courage to change his point of view after realizing what we're up against. The other liberals couldn't admit the truth because it would vindicate the person they despise more than anything, president Bush. Now they run around with their heads up their ass trying to discredit the president by using lies and distortions.Hitchens was man enough to follow the truth wherever it led him but for most liberals the truth is something to manipulate and hide.
> But let's not forget that at heart he is a leftist and an atheist. We should pray for his conversion.
Indeed. With luck and the grace of the gods, one day he'll be a conservative pagan.
Well he is right to fear Islam more than Christianity. His belief in the possibility of peace and justice without God befuddles me. I look about at humanity and am NOT reassured. I pray to God precisely because I do not have faith in humanity.
Right, good point. I wonder what this is about:
...where he's starting work on his next book, "God Is Not Great."
It's amazing how smart, intelligent, well informed people choose to not have any spiritual discernment.
I am not muslim but God IS great! Otherwise he gets it.
