The US Air Force has just put out a request for proposal for a "Gaming and Training Environment for Counter Space Operations." In other words, they're ready for Ender's Game. Or maybe Space Wars.
The proposed intent of the software is to develop tactics, techniques and procedures relating to four key tasks: detect, identify, track and disrupt activities from space vehicles. In part, the request states:

It'll be done on the sunny side of the Earth to hide it.

I was making a reference to the old B-grade sci-fi films. ;-)

One of the best novels of the 1980's, Ender's Game won both the Hugo and Nebula awards for best novel in 1985. Aliens have attacked the Earth twice - and won both times. The military, in an effort to secure the future of the species, take groups of genius children to train them in the arts of war - in the form of increasingly sophisticated games. Can Ender Wiggin save the planet? Whoa! WTF?

A classic Blue-Grey matchup. Wonder if we'll be game-fighting both.

In case the Chinese, EU, or Russia decides to do what, exactly? I'd say, antisatellite weapons are (I believe) banned from space, and there's no immediate need for such a study. However, it's always good not to have to play catch-up.

Anti satellite weapons are in space already. Believe it.
To: SunkenCiv
Yeah they aren't banned. The only ban on space weapons (Outer Space Treaty) is on placing WMDs in a full orbit in space or placing a WMD into space for the purpose of detonating it there.
If you have BMD, you have ASAT with some minor modifications. We've made and deployed them before during the Cold War. I wouldnt be surprised if we have a specific ASAT capability now and deployed for use against the Chinese (although I am not aware of one since all of my knowledge on this topic is from the Cold War and its probably secretive info)

Counting down to the first squeals of "the evil Americans are weaponizing space!" from our friends at the UN.

Oh boy, can't wait to hear Richard C. Hoagland chime in about this one! He'd probably think something is up and that the 'quickening' is at hand, and full disclosure of aliens is just around the corner. Heck, probably said it already on C2C...though I wasn't listening to it since, well, Sci-Fi Friday is back!
BTW, prayers for Art Bell and his family. What a tragic and shocking loss.

My son is involved in this. Very interesting stuff but he is not allowed to give details....at least not to his dad and me.
