The chairman of a state Senate committee investigating voting irregularities says it might take two to three weeks to make a final recommendation on whether Ophelia Ford should be seated in the Senate.
But Chairman Mike Williams says he'll ask in the interim that Ford take the seat provisionally.
Ford won a special election by 13 votes to replace her brother, former Senator John Ford, who resigned after being indicted in a federal public corruption case.
Williams noted the need for more information before making a final recommendation.
Republican challenger Terry Roland is contesting the election outcome and his attorney says they've found irregularities including at least two votes cast in the names of dead people, several convicted felons and one person who didn't live in the district.

How right you are! And the particular region is not only at the rump end, it's 'up about excrement high'.
We've been trying to give Memphis to Arkansas forever but they won't take it. Memphis is the armpit of Tennessee. I passed through there one time and swore I would NEVER go back. Memphis is not an example of what Tennesseans are really like.
This is what scares me when folks talk about Ford Jr as being a reasonable, moderate to conservative kind of democrat. There is no one in his extended political family who could even teach him to be anything but a thug. Why anyone would suspect that this acorn fell far from the tree is beyond me.
The only Ford that hasn't been in the news for corruption is "Tennesee Eernie Ford" and he has a good excuse since he died in 1991.
Not only will she vote on legislation even ethics legislation, but 2 of the ones caught in Op Tennessee Waltz will be doing so also..bowers and crutchfild will be doing so too.
Years ago, Georgia sued Tennessee, claiming that Chattanooga actually belonged to them. In Nashville, the consensus was that we should let them have Chattanooga if they took Memphis, too.
LOL, Chattanooga is bad but not hardly as bad as Memphis. I live 30 minutes from Chattanooga and go there only if I must. I prefer shopping in Knoxville but don't care much for either of the four big cities. I can see how Georgia thinks part of Chattanooga belongs to them. I've lived here most of my life and can't tell where one ends and the other begins.
