Ashley Thomas said she is proud of her Southern heritage.
When are people --just gonna be--people again?
My God! Is this the aptitude of the school board too?In truth, they need a town meeting of parents up there, without this Principle,to decide whether he's mature enough to handle high school students. He could put this incident on his resume',along with All his other FEARS about what might happen,(he might never get another job-in the school system again-ever).For sure in the SOUTH!Not only did he call the students "racist" but the mother and Father as well. All that name calling is fist fighting talk to a Southern--this Principle must of been raised up somewhere else--God knows where? They need to get rid of that dude immediately! Fired and don't let the door hit you in the ass.
"Ashley Thomas said she is proud of her Southern heritage."
She certainly seems to enjoy lots of fried chicken.
So,dress codes trumph the constitution? In that case i find the "sissy rainbow" and the "peace symbol" offensive!I think the failed public indoctrination centers(public schools)should be concerned about education rather than brainwashing!
"Burleson High School education officials maintain the Confederate symbol is offensive."
How did the libs ever come to the conclusion that 'offensiveness' is the litmus test for free speech? Needless to say, this is another First Amendment case the ACLU won't be taking on.
War of Southern Independence BUMP.
Long live the South.
what an ugly bag
So's the union flag. When are we getting rid of that?
Schools should be allowed to limit what students display on their clothing or handbags.
There is nothing about a confederate flag that should prevent anyone from displaying it if they so choose.
bump for later
There's a school system just south of Austin,TX in Hayes county that, I believe, still uses the Confederate flag as their school colors. ( the Rebels ) I think there was a school in Austin that use to have the Rebel flag but, was pressured into changeing. Maybe some Austin FReepers can help me out?
I rarely agree with you on these issues, but this principal is a douchbag. Does she do the same thing with black folks who wear the black, white and green Black Power colors?
Still, I'd like to express my opinion, as a Northerner and descendant of members of the Grand Army of the Republic, that I'm disgusted by the war to stigmatize the Confederate cause as illegitimate and evil and to strip Southerners of their heritage and history. That's just wrong.
after the SCV won the TN case on this VERY same issue, you'd think that school districts would "smarten up"!
obviously, the Burleson ISD didn't get the message & NOW they will PAY two young ladies for violating their civil rights.
serves them right, imVho.
free dixie,sw
This yankee says, "You go girls!"
In light of this "issue," it would have been interesting if they were the Redskins, or Indians, or some other non-pc group.
If they don't want students to wear anything that even might cause a disruption then they better stick to school uniforms, because in our current oversensitized, politically correct society someone is always bound to be offended by something. And if it's not clothes it'll be something else (stickers, posters, pins, etc.). Where does it end?
Of course if someone came to school decked out in a Fidel Castro, Louis Farrakhan, or Ramsey Clark t-shirt I suspect spokesman Crummel would be just fine with that, even though the all in the above group not only despise America but work overtime to hurt us as much as possible.
Once again, the courts give an incentive to people to be hyper-sensitive so that they can promote their viewpoint and exclude others' views.
Do any of the history books at this school have a rebel flag pictured in them?
1. That IS NOT the Confederate Flag. It is the Confederate BATTLE Flag. Under it some of the bravest men in history fought and died for a cause they believed in. I salute them and their honor always.
2. School go pound sand. I hope these girls sue your a$$ of and win.
