"Neither CNN nor Christiane Amanpour is aware of alleged eavesdropping by the government on Ms. Amanpour and we are unable to confirm this story. We are looking into it."

He also denied speculation that government eavesdroppers have fallen asleep from boredom while monitoring his phone calls and checking his book orders from Amazon.com.

Being simply an ordinary citizen, and not having spoken with terrorists on the phone in the past, it is a lot more outrageous that his civil rights have been trampled on so thoughlessly.

Certainly it's a lot more serious than tapping the phones of Amanpour and Dan Rather...

If Christiane Amanpour was aware of the eavesdropping, the persons doing the eavesdropping weren't properly doing their jobs. If she was speaking by satellite phone from Iraq, there's no question in my mind that her calls were being monitored - or that they should have been.

According to Wikipedia, although she was born in London, the Amanpour family lived in Iran, not Lebanon. They fled back to London when the Shah was overthrown in the Islamic revolution. She attended Catholic schools in London. Her name has Christ in it. I doubt she's a Muslim.
