Exactly. It ticks me off that the press is going around trying to lay the blame for this on everyone but themselves.

But then the depth of my hatred for the press makes me not at all "objective" about this thing. ; )

Hindsight is 20/20 and its easy for me to complain and act like a know it all.
I just know what my Dad would have done.He would show up on the scene and immediately makes friends with the cops,EMT's, workers,ect...He probably would know some of them already.
Establish a firm relationship with the Mining spokesman and he already would know the people at the governors office. If anything happened he would be on top of it, check with his "people" before shooting his mouth off.
These national reporters should of at least attempted to do some groundwork for their "sources".. These idiots are hacks.
