Santorum Wants Non-Partisan Panel To Evaluate Iraq War
WASHINGTON -- Sen. Rick Santorum yesterday wrote a letter to President Bush asking him to create an independent, non-partisan commission to objectively evaluate progress in Iraq.
The letter is a significant shift by the Pennsylvania Republican, whose stalwart support for nearly all aspects of the Bush administration's policies in Iraq could be a significant handicap in his race against state Treasurer Robert P. Casey this year if Pennsylvanians' support for the war continues to decline.
Mr. Santorum told the president that he was joining other members of Congress in their call for a panel that could "objectively and critically report" progress in Iraq to build Americans' confidence and trust in the mission.

"What I want to know is when are some of these politicians going to get smart and realize that when they run (and vote) as conservatives, they win?"
Nope, we WON'T forget...
I don't get it either.
Conservatives CAN win on conservative issues.
My theory is they fear the media framing them as zealots, while lacking the courage or conviction to stand on principle.
Of course there is the NWO theory that too strongly a "conservative" America means too strong a sovereign America -- thus RINO/Centrists are recruited or recreated (as in Santorum's case.)
Whether Santorum or Harry Reid, principled politician is an oxymoron.
"I don't know. He's not acting like he WANTS to be re-elected, is he?"
Yes he is acting as if he wants to be reelected. Survival is any politician's first rule. My guess is that he has been doing some secret polling in the areas of PA that kept him in the Senate the last time. . . . or, his monthly appearances on the "Imus in the Morning" program over the past year has caused his mail to run in the opposite direction. Whatever has caused it, it is a huge development.
Generally, I concur. However if it's a matter of degree, consider the difference between Santorum and Reid day and night.
I'll will like to remember the soon to be ex-Senator Santorum as having warned legalizing Gay Marriage will lead to the leagalizing of other deviant behavior.

What in the world is Santorum's problem. He lurches back and forth between conservatism and something else.
This Pennsylvanian is laughing.
What do you want me to do cry? I mean I feel that I have tried to support Santorum (although knew he could lose this election), and even tried on this site to have people vote for him anyways sometimes to my own detriment, but he keeps getting crazier and crazier so I just don't know anymore about him.
"he should tie a knot in that rope he is at the end of"
That's hilarious. He's trying to distance himself now from exactly what he used to position himself before. It's kind of sad to watch, IMO.
