NEW YORK -- Morgan Stanley has fired a stock-research analyst and three sales staffers in the Wall Street firm's institutional-stock division after they accompanied one or more clients on a visit to an adult-entertainment club, according to people familiar with the matter.
The firing of the staffers, all men, sent a message that exclusionary, male-only activities won't be tolerated at the firm, according to people familiar with the matter. In mid-2004, Morgan Stanley agreed to pay $54 million to settle a gender-discrimination case. As part of the settlement, Morgan Stanley denied wrongdoing but agreed to take additional steps to promote diversity and conduct antidiscrimination training.
One of the complaints in the gender-discrimination case brought by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission was that women in the same institutional-stock division had been improperly excluded from certain client-related activities such as male-only golf outings and strip-club visits.
The EEOC complaint in 2001 followed an individual complaint filed with the EEOC in 1998 by a former institutional-stock saleswoman, Allison Schieffelin, who was fired in 2000. She had charged that gender discrimination caused her not to be promoted to managing director.

In the recent episode, the four fired employees were all technology-industry specialists who made the strip-club visit during free time while they were attending a three-day Morgan Stanley conference for tech investors in early November at the Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa in Phoenix.
The firm has a policy against participation in an exclusionary event while on company business, people familiar with the firm said. One rule specifically bars attending adult-entertainment establishments in connection with company business. One or more clients were present at the Arizona establishment, one person familiar with the matter said.

Take it easy. I'm off to work in a few minutes.
Well it's 3:41 PST my time so relax.
I'll check my post's tomorrow.
Nice talking to you, it's beem a pleasure.
They beleive the porn thing is fully accepted and cool now.
Apparently lots of folks on this thread do as well
Most people don't know what they are...
American women's tendency to get easily (and expensively) offended contributes to business just moving elsewhere where discrimination laws do not exist
I am less concerned with their going to a strip club and watching a girl shake her booty than I am with their falsifying research reports and creating phony corporate entities for corporate thugs to rip off stockholders al la Global Crossing.
So if they put it on their expense report they wouldn't be bribing a client?
I've been offered and have been asked for bribes.
Never taken or given one, but I've never done business internationally, where I understand it is much more common.
But I have buddies who were reps Overseas, and bribes were only an expense account entry.
Of course, in the countries they were in, the "Authorities" came to their hotel rooms nightly and confiscated their Passports, which would hopefully be returned the next morning.
As the old saying goes, "Always keep enough gold to bribe the border gaurds".
PC run amok.
The fired employees should sue the p*ss out of MWD.
If nothing else, Discovery should be entertaining.
I am amazed that the unfettered employment at will crowd who were falling over themselves recently to tell those fired smokers that they should follow the rules or ship out have failed to show up by post #106.
damn straight, that's how things are done in the real world.
Where I used to work, the gals in the business development group used to take female clients/visiting VPs shoe shopping/browsing for an afternoon. The business development guys HATED it. Tough luck. Golfing is boring when you can't drink on company time.
If this is now a trend, then expect Willie Green to be posting articles about mass layoffs of strippers... (er, I mean "dancers")
This is true, this goes on a lot in sales, especially when foreign clients come to town. They always demand to be taken to strip clubs to conduct business.
My opinion is "lighten up, Francis."
he didn't mean you, HG ; )
!!!!!!!!!!!
Cool, because I'm very mature, and I recently had a lovely time---very mature and sober---with several ladies of eastern European extraction at the wonderful "Delilah's Den" in Philadelphia, PA.
i'm quite certain it was a cerebral experience and that they had very engaging.... personalities... : )
They being relocated Sovietskis and all, we had a very interesting discussion of Dostoyevsky's Crime and Punishment, don't you know.
American men have been told for decades now that they are sexually uncontrolable, abusive and ignoble by feminists. All the attributes of men in relationship to women(love, strength, romance, honor, proectiveness, etc.) were named sexist and cleansed from the socailization of men.
In the male rebellion against feminism what do we see men trying to prove here about being male? Strip clubs and lap dances; porn addiction - the sexual exploitation of women. Men want to reclaim their masculinity that was cleansed by the feme-nazis and all many men know that prepresents male is porn or the sexual exploitation of women.
Oh well...whatever. Sexual disease will take care of it.
