The film "Syriana" is based on the true story of a CIA operative sent to assassinate Saddam Hussein, and the agent's near murder by Palestinian terrorists from Hezbulah. But in the hands of actor/producer George Clooney, Americans are shown to be greedy and corrupt while suicide bombers are presented as freedom fighters.

Syriana is confused, pretentious, manipulative, false and most of all hopelessly boring, but the suicide bombers are not presented as freedom fighters. In fact they are presented as lost, unemployed kids with nothing to believe in and no prospects for the future who are easily manipulated by handlers shown to be plenty sinister, and their deaths are portrayed as a pointless loss--possibly the only truly affecting aspect of this terrible film.

The filmmakers are then (unintentionally) making an argument in favor of overthrowing regimes like Iraq and planting a Western-style Republic in the middle east (and encouraging such governments to spread), so that these unemployed, no prospects youngsters can have the type of self-esteem bolstering opportunity that exists in countries like the U.S., U.K., and Australia.

Oddly, the film is making that argument--in its confused, contradictory, pretentious manner: the only actual hero in the film is the reform-minded prince of an unnamed Arab country who wants to institute democratic reforms, improve the status of women, etc. But the film doesn't seem to realize that these are western ideals and that the west might be some kind of example here--instead it has the CIA killing the reform-minded prince. I think. Frankly I was never sure what was going on in that murky morass of a movie. They can have their ten bucks: I want my two hours back.

The proof is in the pudding. The movie has horrible box office numbers and is going nowhere, no matter how many "Hollywood" award nominations George Clooney gets. I suspect the American people will speak out by not watching the various award shows in large numbers. And....with gay loving, liberal, left-wing, Jew hating, GW Bush hating, Democrat Jon Stewart as the host of the Academy Awards, can we expect a sheep herding, fudge packing ceremony, led by Jon Stewart at the Academy Awards presentation?

I thought this was about Jon Stewart hosting the Oscars.

Many years ago, we loved to watch the Academy Awards but since this America hating, immorality pushing bunch has been in charge, we never watch. They will have power and money until their good looks fade..They have one of the biggest megaphones in the nation so they seem to be larger in number than they are. Don't believe it..They are the fringe....
