In all of the psychobabble, not a word about right and wrong -- just about "biological basis", with feeling good as their highest ideal.

I would see it. I'm not sure how much I'd charge to induce me to see it. But there is an amount of money you could pay me that would get me to go see it. I can tell you one thing: not cheap.

"Homophobe" means a fear of them.
I don't fear them at all; I just don't like them.
What is it about a man's butt that turns homos on? Is it the aroma?
I'll never see this movie, and will look askance at any man who does.

His advice for straights uneasy about "Brokeback" is to "first understand you have this problem. At least by acknowledging it, that's a start. It's like saying, `I have a fear of heights."'So the good doctor is saying that fearing homosexuality is just as healthy as fearing dangerous, precarious heights? OK, I'll buy that.

Of course if a person fails to see it the critics will call "us" homophobic.
Hey bonehead critics - A romantic movie between to sheepherders in love is just not what I'm looking to spend my money on. That does not make me homophobic.
Since I didn't go to the movies and see the other 95% of the trash that was put out this year it would be hard to total in the "phobic" list. Monkey-phobic, remake phobic, vacation movie phobic, etc, etc.
Trash is Trash.

"It does seem to be almost culturally universal that heterosexual men can have a deep repulsion to overt homosexuality," said Dean Hamer, scientist and author of "The Science of Desire: The Gay Gene and the Biology of Behavior." "But there is no study I know of to ascertain whether this is a biologically based trait," Hamer said.
Words fail.

A psychologist who coined the word "homophobic" said the revulsion is precisely that. Bah. I'm repulsed by pedophiles, too. I guess that makes me "pedophili-phobic" in the eyes of that moron.

sparking both critical praise and water cooler chatter."Water cooler chatter" implies that people with jobs have seen this film in significant numbers. We know this to be false.
My water coooler has never heard of Brokeback Mountain. Chances are strong yours hasn't, either.

What is it in this story of two cowboy pals in 1960s Wyoming who find themselves in lifelong love -- yet go on to marry women -- that elicits this response from heterosexual males? The answers are as complex as the plot. The answer is actually quite simple: We don't go for that sh!t. Anyway, this is Brokeback thread #33 and counting, which is 30 more than we need.

A psychologist who coined the word "homophobic" said the revulsion is precisely that. A scientist who discovered genetic links to sexuality said he simply does not understand the response. The author of "The Sexual Brain" said there is nothing on a neurobiological basis to explain the aversion. Well, I cannot understand why two men would want to engage in anal sex. What is the "neurobiological basis" to explain homosexuality?
"This is a threat to most men because it opens up the possibility that two men who are friendly may become affectionate," Shary said. "That's something men just do not want to consider."
Oh please. Becoming affectionate is one thing, committing sodomy is another.

Liberals are smarter than every one else. They think our identity needs to be made over. As a heterosexual man, I'd like to say its not my confidence that is in doubt. Its theirs and its the Left in the throes of an existential crisis. Why else would they fob "Brokeback Mountain" off on the rest of us? That's one reason why I'm not interested in ever watching this dreck of a movie and its not because I'm a homophobe. Its because I believe manhood is an enduring quality that doesn't change because Hollywood says it must change.

In a purely political, not scientific move, twenty or thirty years ago, a handful of psychologists voted to remove homosexuality -- an obviously dysfunctional condition -- from the list of psychological disorders. At the same time, they coined the word "homophobic" to describe the normal revulsion that people feel when people use their sex organs in obviously deviant ways.
A "phobia" is a psychological disorder.
So, by the manipulation of language, deviants became "normal," and normal people who are repulsed by homosexual acts became "sick."
The inmates are truly running the asylum.

Hollywood keeps on making them and I keep on not seeing them. They've made, what, thousands of movies, and aside from a very few ("South Pacific", "Key Largo" and "The Sound of Music" come to mind), there's none of them that I care to see; aside from "Blackhawk Down," I haven't seen any of their output in at least 10 years, and I have no plans to see any thing else.
Given that situation, there's no way that I'd want to see a piece of crap like this, a movie featuring a couple guys swooning at each other. I rarely gag but that one would surely induce it.
No, thanks. I'll pass.
To: Incorrigible
From what I've been reading and hearing on the news, it's not JUST straight guys who are not going to see the movie, it's just about everybody.
