The University of Illinois must soon decide whether, and if so how, to fight an exceedingly silly edict from the NCAA. That organization's primary function is to require college athletics to be no more crassly exploitative and commercial than is absolutely necessary. But now the NCAA is going to police cultural sensitivity, as it understands that. Hence the decision to declare Chief Illiniwek "hostile and abusive" to Native Americans.

Any word yet if the NCAA is going to move from INDIANapolis, INDIANa???
Some of these schools need to just drop out of the NCAA.
Or do something really radical, like re-focus on
education students and deemphasize the symbolic combat
of the artificial tribes (aka team sports).
Spend a lot of time stuffed in lockers back in high school?
And why focus solely on education students? Why not engineers, chemistry majors, etc.?
They should change the mascot to "Mohammed the Filthy Dishrag Head Suicide Bomber".

One of those 70's things. I think the student body voted for this as a joke.
I just remembered a little ironic fact about this community college. The land it is built on is leased from the Salt River Pima Indians.
Now that college squads have been forced by the NCAA to respect the delicate sensibilities of Native Americans, isn't it time that they evince a decent level of consideration for the feelings of our cousins in the animal kingdom? How much longer will we Americans continue to batter and bruise the emotions of badgers, wolverines, longhorns, tigers, groundhogs, stoats, and gerbils by association with violent sport? This sort of thing really should not be allowed, and I, for one, will be greatly gladdened when NCAA officials take appropriate measures to curtail it.

Nope. I was just never terribly interested in them, and
only lately figured out why: TDS
Tribalism Deficiency Syndrome
It not only doesn't take a village, treating the
village as an independent entity is the problem.
Not a military guy, are you?

Actually, I meant to write: "educating".
You can see what the schools have done instead,
just by reading posts like mine. Shocking :-)
I was just busting on ya, i knew what you meant.
