More than 92% of Americans below the poverty line said they had enough food, as of 1998. Some 86% said they had no unmet need for a doctor, 89% had no roof leaks, and 87% said they had no unpaid rent or mortgage.

This statistic bears repeating over and over. Our poor not only have a lot of stuff, their cash flow and medical is OK, too.

And this tells us what about the "pressing," "urgent," "critical" need to raise the minimum wage?

Well, that was back in 1998 when Clinton was President and the winter were milder, the summers weren't quite as hot, and songbirds followed people around providing them with the sounds of nature.< /sarcasm>

Now that George Bush is President, I'm sure the New York Times will claim that 92% of people below the poverty line are one cracker away from starving to death, 86% have no idea what a doctor is, 89% have roof leaks even on sunny days and Karl Rove has evicted 87% so they don't have any rent payments anymore.
