PRAGUE, Jan 4 (CTK) - The five-member gang of Kosovo Albanians who were caught last May shortly after they stole money from a cash dispenser in Mlada Boleslav, central Bohemia, has burgled at least another nine cash machines in the country, the police unit for uncovering organised crime (UOOZ) told CTK today.
The gang cooperated with another two Kosovo Albanian gangs, UOOZ spokeswoman Blanka Kosinova said.
The police arrested the five men on May 8, 2005 on the motorway leading from Prague to Liberec via Mlada Boleslav. The perpetrators locked themselves in their car and put up resistance to the detectives. During the arrest the police slightly injured some perpetrators and seized a rucksack with 1.5 million crowns.
The men, aged between 27 and 37, were accused of theft and harming another's property. The police later extended the accusation to include another nine crimes. All of them face up to 12 years in prison, if found guilty.
The gang arrived in the Czech Republic in 2004 from Spain where they specialised in burgling cash machines in supermarkets.
In the Czech Republic, they applied their "well-proven" burgling method. They entered the chosen buildings forcibly through the roof neutralising security devices and reached the money through the dispensers' back side.
Apart from Mlada Boleslav, they also burgled cash machines in other areas of the country, stealing a total of 8 million crowns and incurring 3 million crown damage to the buildings and dispensers involved.
The gang reportedly committed similar crimes elsewhere in Europe, mainly Spain, Germany and Italy. It was linked to another two Kosovo Albanian gangs of thieves operating in the Czech Republic, whose members were arrested in November 2004 and October 2005, respectively.
A total of 14 citizens of former Yugoslavia are waiting for trial in Czech prisons in connection with this case, said Kosinova.

A haven for abused women in Kosovo
Domestic violence, long treated as a criminal offense in the US, is still seen as a private affair here.

DTA, weren't you following the robbery reports from Spain? Didn't they send some of the money to the KLA? Did the Spanish devise methods against the Kosovo Albanian style robberies and is that why (some of) these gangs left there?
