US-German Relations - Berlin's Concern about America's Image

German Chancellor Angela Merkel can look forward to the red-carpet treatment in Washington next week as US President George Bush -- who never got on with her predecessor Gerhard Schröder -- hopes to signal a fresh start. But a top German official warns that despite improving trans-Atlantic ties, America's reputation among the European public is waning.

Thank you for the ping. Steyn is always brilliant. Anyway his conclusions are only half true if we talk about Germany. The reason for this is that he predicts that all immigration into my country is islamic. This is definitly wrong. In the meantime only a very limited number of Turks or other muslims are flowing into Germany. Most of them through marriages.

Since the beginning 80ties we have growing immigration rates from eastern Europe. Former Russians, Ukrainians and Poles (so called "Aussiedler" - maybe you heared about it) are mixing into our population. A interesting graphic about naturalization in Germany:

Do you see the big proportion that the "Aussiedlers" take. The growing naturalization rates of other foreigners are because of changed laws that made it easier for foreigners that lived for a long time in Germany to become German. In fact their influx into Germany is declining.

Although it is true that the Turks have a much bigger offspring than the average German, you should not forget that over the time the young Turks adopt the western style of living. It is very unlikely that they start a broad jihad against other Germans.

Furthermore political power is a question of education and know-how. All those immigrants seem to be trapped in the lower class of the society. Maybe they can start some riots, but they will never be able to topple our system (I.e. the riots in LA in 1992 did not topple your system either). BTW - most of them do not want to do this anyway since they would destroy their own livelihood in this case.

Espechially in the UK things are more dangerous due to the numberous moslems from Pakistan. There is a simular situation in France with their north Africans. These guys are gung ho to spread their religion with all means. But - until now those idiots weren't even able to do some effective terrorism in Europe. Maybe you know that it is extremely easy to cause really a lot of trouble in a civil society as long as you act intelligent. Until now there was only one really massive blow to western civilisation: 9/11. This is a good indicator to their collective incompetence. The background for their intellectual failure is also clear to me: Somebody who believes in their interpretation of the Koran and into their form of Islam must be a complete moron anyway.

Of course we have to be careful and we have to steer against dangerous developments. Believe it or not - the German "Verfassungsschutz" (a German intelligence service for interior matters) is quite effective in dealing with islamist scum. On the other hand there is no reason for panic. Things are under control and they will stay under control.

You're right, the EU desperately needs to look inward to solve its problems -- but it's so much more comfortable to blame Uncle Sam (Pop), than face reality. They've been supported for so long, they think they're 'entitled' to his protection. They're like kids, demanding the keys to the family car, slamming out of the house with their Muslim pals...(who have their own not so secret agenda.) Pop doesn't know anything, Pop's mean, Pop's a fool. Listen to the rhetoric, all of it -- it's the adolescent rantings of a teenaged brat. And when they T-bone the car into a semi, guess who they'll call.

I don't see it being very pretty in France, in 20-30 years. Even if immigration were to stop today, they have significant growing communities of unassimilated Arabic Muslims. And yes, if I had to choose, I'd take Turkish Muslims over Arab ones any day.

Things are a littlebit more complicated. In difference to other European countries the Frogs have a quite high birth rate. Vive l'amour! Even if you Americans are boiling in anger about the cheese eating surrender monkeys, it is a fact that some of the most beautiful women are from France.

Therefore they are that attractive to their men that the average number of kids/woman is about 2. Much higer than in all other European countries. To give you a comparison: In Germany and Austria the ratio is at 1.3, Russia and Italy are at 1.2, Spain at 1.1 and the USA are also about 2. (BTW - I will not doubt that those countries have beautiful women too).

Therefore: The French population is stable. There are some pure muslim ghettos, espechially in big towns. Furthermore it has to be said that most of those French muslims are at the lowest end of the social ladder. As uneducated and unemployed persons they will never be able to take over power. It will be interesting to wait for the future political development in France. Maybe you heared about Jean Marie le Pen. The French have a much broader and stable far right wing than Germany. If the political right is provoked enough with torched cars and raped girls I could imagine that the muslim movement in France can come to an fast end...

To me the biggest problems with muslims are boiling in the UK. Low birth rates combined with radical scum from Pakistan that is multiplying fast. Not good.
