Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is scheduled Thursday to deliver a State of the State address that is expected to be the most significant speech of his political career to date...
(snip)
Analysts suggested Schwarzenegger lost popularity because he pushed a much more conservative agenda than he had during the recall campaign in which he was elected and his initial year-plus in office. So with political strategists and his own inner circle -- including his most trusted adviser, Democratic first lady Maria Shriver -- insisting the governor must get back to the political center, the address will provide voters with their first look at the 2006 model of Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Already, the governor's staff -- which has teasingly released some details of the governor's agenda -- hints that the conservative, combative candidate who tarred firefighters, teachers and nurses as "special interests" during last year's special election will fast fade into memory.
In his place: the Infrastructure Governor, who will use his platform Thursday -- the speech is scheduled to begin at 5:05 pm. -- to talk about bread-and-butter issues that matter to a broad range of California's voters, particularly the independents who often decide elections in this Democratic-leaning state. The plan focuses on economic issues such as creating 450,000 new jobs -- including an increase in the minimum wage -- along with traffic-congestion relief, prescription drug programs, better flood protection, port expansion, money for roads and bridges and a promise of no new taxes.
"The governor is engaging in very clever politics,'' said Hoover Institution research fellow Bill Whalen, a former Republican strategist. "By introducing a massive infrastructure bond, freezing (higher education) tuition hikes, he is taking food off the Democrats' table in November. And in true 'Godfather' style, he's making them offers they can't refuse.''

"It doesn't matter what he says; it matters what he does," Frank said.
Ditto that!
The center of what? The Cesspool center?
..probably
Doogle
Arnold will confess to be a latent heterosexual.
He's always been a centrist, so I don't know where he can move.
How far right will he have to go to get to the "center"?
The "center" on the left coast? Would that be like,pro/baby killing,pro/gay,anti/gun rights,anti/christian?
You forgot landgrabbing, big-spending, envirowacko.
He gains the center by distancing himself from the vocal and never happy far right.
I still think they need to go after the Unions.
All the states have this rush of money in with the increase of property taxes with higher priced homes.
I'm sure he could go on a spending spree to influence liberals, but that isn't going to impress the right.
Now, that's good! LOL!
He gains the center by distancing himself from the vocal and never happy far right.

You don't seem to much like conservatives much either, ingeneral, it would seem, do you?

too bad the massive debt he has brought on this state by trying to play nice nice and being bipartisan and then borrowing bigtime and then ballooning the state budgets HE proposed the last 2 years won't fade away as fast.
You kiddin? I love 'em! Not the whacks, mind you, nor the intolerant ranters, but conservatives with the Constitution always in mind, they're my champs. I think those among us who can do nothing but rant and be nihilistically negative about everything do real conservatives no favors. After all, they push people from the right to the center. How many times have you seen the ilk suggesting someone be more comfortable somewhere else? They make life so much easier for our enemies, the fully corrupt demonratz. They can be counted on to provide caricaturish examples.
The perfect question, all things considered.
I think you are full of bull. personally.
Your claims to be anything other than a disruptor much less a conservative here are evidenced everytime you whip out your ilk and other comments .
You really contribute little constructive on issues , frankly.
I'm curious if you voted for Simon, I know you didn't vote for Tom per your remarks and willingness to just let
Arnold have his way as he takes the state over the edge.
What do you consider "far right"?
Do you support all his recent actions (and those hinted at)?
How about his other acts?
I despise the ilk and see right through their scams. You, I merely suspect. I think you like to wind 'em up, just to watch the fireworks.
I always vote for the most conservative candidate in the primary and the Republic in the election. The recall was an aberration. I wasn't for it, I wanted to see davis replaced after he made such a mess of stuff, but by a normal primary and election. Were Tom the only horse in the race, or in a primary, he would (and will be) my man. That is not to say he had a snowballs's chance in the recall. The middleground (the unwashed center) would not have turned out and it would have been conservatives versus liberals and conservatives would have lost.
You say I contribute little. I disagree. I call the spades as I see 'em and in doing so convey a message to the middleground that we are all not ranting whackjobs and the ilk are not our spokesmen.
You're incorrect in saying "willingness to just let Arnold have his way as he takes the state over the edge". Just because I don't join the ranting whackjobs doesn't mean to say I am not extremely disappointed in Arnie's performance and doubt I could ever vote for him in a valid primary.
