Bush Administration Misuses the Word Caliphate (NPR says an Islamic Caliphate is a good thing)
NPR ^ | January 4, 2006 | James Reston

Posted on 01/04/2006 12:39:33 PM PST by jmc1969

James Reston takes issue with the recent use of the word caliphate. As part of our ongoing series of commentaries on the war of Iraq, Reston says U.S. officials have misrepresented the concept as a threatening stance by Arabs.

The NPR article starts off by saying Ayman al-Zawahiri is al-Qaeda's main operative in Iraq and it goes downhill from there.....way the hell downhill.

If ever anyone had any doubt NPR is pro terrorist this ought to prove differently.

NPR is liberal and leftwing. They were pro-USSR, pro-Saddam, and are pro-terrorists. Maybe Mr Reston would change his mind after they castrate him and make him wear a burkha.

I have written letter after letter to my Congressman Sam Johnson calling for the end of all public money for NPR. They sure as hell do not represent me, my values, my politics or my way of life.

Why does NPR act like this?

And why are we paying for it?

It's like an electronic newspaper owned by the government. In the realm of media, I cannot fathom something as awful as that - especially in America.

James Reston? I suggest Mr. Reston take a very long walk off a very short pier. I believe it would do wonders for him and his perspective.

Ann Coulter was right: "You want to make a liberal angry? Defend America." Amen.

Damn. Just... damn. Apparently "slurring" the "nice" Caliphates of the past (never mind the untold opression they wrought upon the conquered peoples) is a boon to terrorists. Cause it offends the moderate muslim's feelings.

I am at a loss for words.

Let's see.Bin Laden has referred, in his speeches, to a new "Caliphate". Is that the OK definition NPR prefers?. Personally, I like Hulegu Khan's definition of a Caliphate [Abbasid] - "GONE"!

ROFL!! They accuse Bush of misusing the word "Caliphate", and in the meantime they don't even know the difference between Ayman Al-Zawahiri and Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi.

Really, you just couldn't make this kind of stuff up if you tried.

The last Caliphate of Baghdad was put in a leather bag and trampled by Ghengis Khan's army when he wouldn't surrender.

The Soviets were: we'll screw you over then let mooslims have the scrapes as an agreement.

NPR & liberals are: we'll let mooslims screw you and then we'll get their scrapes as an agreement.

Dear Editor (of the Philadelphia Inquirer):

"Muslim Spain was a perfect example of a flourishing society in which Jews, Christians and Muslims lived in mutual respect and cooperation."

Muslim Spain was Christian Spain for nearly 700 years before being conquered by Islamic Armies in the 8th Century. That is the way the Islamic Religion has been historically spread, though military invasion and occupation. Treatment of conquered people has the same goal, the minimizing of other religions and conversion of the indigenous people. Among other rules for non Muslims in Muslim Spain; Christians and Jews could not bear arms -- Muslims could; Christians and Jews could not ride horses -- Muslims could; Christians and Jews had to get permission to build or fix places or worship -- Muslims did not; Christians and Jews had to pay certain taxes which Muslims did not; Christians could not proselytize -- Muslims could; Christians and Jews had to bow to their Muslim masters; Christians and Jews had to live under the laws set forth in the Koran, not under either their own religious or secular law; and Christian's and Jew's word in a court of law was not equal to a Muslim's Word. And the list goes on.

Today, 1300 years later, a Christian or Jew living in an Islamic country will still have to live nearly under these very same laws. I can see why the head of the Philadelphia chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations would want us all to do "our part" to create such a world.

Regards,

2banana

Indeed, according to NPR, when mosslims get lawyers and criticize us, it's for their children, but when we do it it's for our selfish interests which are going to anger them all...

Liberal jews in Germany did not dare offend the Germans as they were being carted away to Treblinka too, by the way.

Irresponsibility and liberal careless racism for the other means blame Bush blame Bush blame Bush, not the Nazis nor the Jews nor the Euros, blame Bush.

When has the Bush Administration ever used the word Caliphate? It's used by the wahhabis and Al Qaeda to describe their utopia. That ought to get Reston wondering what it's all about.

Caliph means deputy.

Could be either a king's deputy or deputy on earth.

NPR described Reston as an historian, so I looked that up. He has written 11 books, but apparently "popular history" is a generous description. Polemic is another. He probably lives off of his father's fame as a NYT columnist. Here is one estimate of his worth, according to Amazon "Get James Reston, Jr.'s Amazon Short, Behind the Damask Curtain, for just 49¢."

I too have repeatedly written to my congressman demanding an end to the funding of communist radio, NPR. Enough! Let the rich liberals fund this nonsense! I'm sure there's lots of people in Hollywood who would love to push this crap.

Taxpayers unite against NPR!

There is good polemicism and bad, and there are good and bad polemicists. Most of us never get beyond dinner table polemicism, even if we bring it into the street and embarrass professional polemicists.

There is a time to polemicize and there is a time to refrain and this is one of those times.

When my friend really wants to have some fun, he turns the station to NPR. He says he can actually hear my blood start to boil a full minute before I begin to froth.
