Super Bowl Wants Only Young Dancers

DETROIT - Mick Jagger and his bandmates may be nearing senior citizenship, but Super Bowl planners only want people 45 and younger to take the field during the Rolling Stones' halftime show.

The NFL is offering 2,000 people a chance to watch the Stones play during the Feb. 5 extravaganza. They will be expected to dance, sing and cheer.

"This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to experience the Super Bowl from a totally unique perspective," NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy told The Detroit News.

People are asked to apply in groups of 20 or more and be at least 18 years old and no older than 45. Signup is under way on the Web site of Star Flow Entertainment, the company organizing the volunteers.

The NFL says the reason for the age cutoff is that the job is physically challenging. Volunteers must enter and exit the field quickly and be on their feet for long periods. They will not have seats and will wait in a tunnel under Ford Field for most of the first half.

Participants also must attend up to five rehearsals that could last seven hours each.

"You have to attend rehearsal and be able to stand for long stretches of time," McCarthy told the Detroit Free Press. "And you have to run onto Ford Field with 2,000 other folks."

Wow. Last time I saw her was when she appeared on the Tonight Show and she was a chubby red headed teenager.

Did she grow up well.

Ozzy Osbourne, the metal godfather, is a Boomer.

Of course. And boomer metal, being musical, is altogether different than today's yelling/growling cr*p.

"Fine, you don't like them...however, there's no denying they are one of the, if not THE, most successful bands in the history of Rock and Roll."

What I find funny about this story is the reason that the Rolling Stones are playing the halftime show is because of their success. However, the NFL is going to keep off the feild the very fans that have made them a success. The boomers will be replaced with younger, prettier people, some of who probably couldn't distinguish Mick Jagger from Kieth Richards. I actually laughed at this story.

In all honesty, would you rather see a bunch of gray haired women with walkers rockin to the beat or some pretty 18 year olds...huh?

Its so the fans who made the Stones great can sit and watch the fans who will fund their monthly SSI checks.

Those guys took truckloads of hard drugs for years, and now it looks like they'll outlive all their fans. Is this a part of life not being fair?

I think being a multi-bazillionaire tends to lessen some of life's rough edges.

It shows you what an incredible grip the Baby Boomer culture has on America. The Stone were forty years ago.

It also shows the staying power of music created by people who actually had musical talent. The Stones (and many of their 1960s-1970s counterparts) may not have been very pretty or been able to dance a choreographed routine on stage very well but they could write some great songs!

I watched "Live 8" last July and immediately noticed how well these old rock dinosaurs performed in regards to today's lip-synching, "couldn't play a guitar if my life depended on it" pretty enough for MTV, mass produced pop-tarts and himbos and their bland, bubblegum music. Music today is garbage and will never be remembered.

There are good bands out today but no one will ever know who they are because they aren't pretty boys and can't dance so MTV and the big record companies will never play them.

Yeah, one wonders, are they getting scale pay for extras? Sure the Rolling Stones were good, but they're over. They're a joke. They're a caricature of themselves. If it wasn't for the burning desire of people to get themselves on TV, I bet
they would be hard pressed to FIND 2000 people ready to do all that without pay, and they darn well better feed them too.

As far as that goes, the Super Snore itself has about played itself out. It's usually a dull game, the commercials have been getting weaker every year, and in the post 9-11 world people just don't care about crappy entertainment the way they used to.

Hollywood so DESPERATELY needs to buy a clue, but they keep plodding on, getting more vapid and irrelevant by the year. I love watching them implode far more than consuming their product. If only you could lose weight by not consuming Hollywood, I'd be in great shape.

Oh, I know why the NFL is doing what it's doing, and I don't disagree with them. Having the 18 year olds bounce around is much better marketing than a dancing granny. And it feeds to their core audience (what is it, 25-40 year old men half filled with beer?). I seriously doubt Depends will have a coveted Super Bowl commercial spot.

I just find the whole thing funny.

Im just glad the NFL isnt putting cRap on...I dont know why they think the core NFL audience is into rap.

The Stones arent a good selection either but I can handle them more than the crap they had on at the Fiesta Bowl.

My biggest pet peeve are the STUPID, FAKE, IDIOTIC, "DANCERS" they have at halftime. It is so phony to watch these semi-choreographed dummies during the performance. Just have the band play without the morons doing either the dumb choreographed moves or the "happy, cheering" fans!!!!!!!!!!!

I REALLY hate it when, say, a country group plays and the dancers are all dressed up like cowboys/girls doing some stupid moves...or phony rappers, or whatever!!!
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ahem...thanks for the venting time....
