This incredibly sordid story is gonna put Jack in jail for a loooog time. And people from both partys are gonna have their careers ruined. I think this is gonna really shake-up DC. Lots of new faces, etc. Lots of vacated seats to fill, and a huge loss of confidence in government.

Any Republican Congressmen who thought Abramoff was a "good guy" need to disclaim their prior compliments and get away from Abramoff QUICK!

Easier said than done in some special cases. - tom

Slate-Abramoff is an orthodox Jew and DeLay is a committed Christian; their relationship is rooted in their parallel faiths.

They were introduced more than a decade ago by Rabbi Daniel Lapin, the South African-born radio talk-show host who established Toward Tradition, a nonprofit coalition of Jews and Christians that aims to advance the agenda of the devout.

Since Abramoff's troubles began, he and DeLay have sought to distance themselves from the other. But DeLay can't shake Abramoff loose so easily—not after their trips abroad, the major role Abramoff played in DeLay's well-financed and successful run for whip, the public praise DeLay heaped on Abramoff for helping bring Native Americans into the Republican fold. Abramoff has hired a number of ex-DeLay staffers, worked closely with the congressman on trade issues, and was partly responsible for DeLay's trips to Britain and Russia. And he has contributed tens of thousands of dollars to DeLay's various political organizations.

Given the unfolding details of Abramoff's extraordinary three-ring circus of lobbying, political fund-raising, and supposed nonprofit work, the danger for the House majority leader is that the Abramoff story has only just begun to come out

My concern is that the media is going to go for the throat of the GOP while covering for the Rats connected to this story.

The left will use this to stoke the fire against Delay, etc.

Can't we just leave 'em vacant? What's the harm?

I watched three news shows last night and none of them even mentioned the Dems getting any money. It was all about Republicans and what the Dems were going to do to them.

Interesting read. It certainly looks as if Abrahamoff and some of his associates were involved in one degree or another with mobsters.

There are some interesting connections with Rep. Bob Ney of Ohio.

Tom DeLay's name is repeatedly mentioned in passing, but there is little or nothing to suggest that he had anything whatever to do with these activities. Abrahamoff had dealings with just about every politician in Washington, so why is only DeLay mentioned in this connection? So DeLay played golf with him? I imagine Abrahamoff played golf with everyone in Washington.

The work on the figures directly concerned with the Florida gambling cruise line and the murder of its former owner is interesting, but it is disturbing that the Weekly Standard would use this to attack DeLay. Why is DeLay connected to these activities any more than the hundreds of other politicians Abrahamoff worked with?

Anramoff personally raised more than $100,000 for GWB, making him a 'pioneer'. I'm hoping he didn't go to any of the parties. I don't think we want to see a 'handshake' photo with this guy.
