Teachers' Pets The NEA gave $65 million in its members' dues to left-liberal groups last year.

Tuesday, January 3, 2006 12:01 a.m. EST

If we told you that an organization gave away more than $65 million last year to Jesse Jackson's Rainbow PUSH Coalition, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, Amnesty International, AIDS Walk Washington and dozens of other such advocacy groups, you'd probably assume we were describing a liberal philanthropy. In fact, those expenditures have all turned up on the financial disclosure report of the National Education Association, the country's largest teachers union.

All the more reason to demand that Congress ends the taxpayer gravy train.

Just had to send this to my daughter. She is a teacher and this will surely open her eyes. Wish we could get the information around to everyone that teaches.

I hope it helps but I have my doubts. The NEA propaganda machine is powerful.

So the teachers union took the equivalent of $6,500 from each of 10,000 teachers and handed it over to Democrat Party-affiliated organizations whose goal is to turn America into a Euro-style, secular socialist welfare state? And the teachers union flushed away that much this year alone?? Boy, that's lame. If I was a teacher, I would be pretty annoyed.

Looks like public school teachers are overpaid at least $6,500 per year.

"So the teachers union took the equivalent of $6,500 from each of 10,000 teachers"

NEA gives to liberal causes - not even news, much less breaking news.

But $6,500 per teacher? That's incredible. Are you sure that's the right number.

Also only 10,000 members? I would think there are more teachers than that just in Georgia. i would have guessed there were at least as many teachers as Walmart employees - that would mean a million+ teachers in the U.S.

From the NEA homepage:

NEA is 2.7 million members ...

Even so, they don't deserve any more pay than a teacher gets in China or India. We're on the global free trade plan now.

At least until our math and science scores are better than scores in China or India.

the real problem is most teachers support all of those groups plus some that are even worse.

In 1986, Robert Hansan was about to graduate from college, his girlfriend was pregnant and he didn't have a job. But he did have an idea. Encouraged by a brother who worked for a printer, he decided to publish a directory of members of Congress and sell it to trade associations as a kind of party favor.

Today, Hansan's Fairfax company, Capitol Advantage LLC, all but owns the lucrative market in congressional directories and that's the least of his renown. In the late 1990s, he transformed that prosaic business into a rudiment of Internet lobbying, which is now the fastest growing and arguably the most potent form of persuasion in the nation's capital.

Keep in mind this is only one union. They are all like this. In addition to cash they provide "volunteers" for political campaigns. When the Democrats moan and groan that the Republicans are the party of the rich and are much better funded than the Democrats it is just another lie. They don't mention all this behind the scenes stuff from the unions and other NGOs.

June 2000 TEACHERS BACK GORE WITH MONEY, MUSCLE ***......The teachers and their unions have long been a force in American politics. From 1991 to 1999, for example, contributions to the Democratic Party from the NEA, AFT, and the Service Employees International Union, which includes some education workers, totaled $6.7 million, making teachers by far the party's biggest donor bloc, according to the nonpartisan Center for Public Integrity. The largest single contributor to Democrats - the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees - gave $3.7 million in that period.

''There's no question that groups donating millions of dollars like the teachers unions have special access and are able to reach in and affect public policy in ways that others are not able to do, and that's not acceptable,'' said Peter Eisner, the center's managing director.

In 1976, the teachers were widely credited with forming the coalition that elected Carter. In return, Carter created the Department of Education. ...........***
