Pace Warns 2006 Will be 'Bad Year' for U.S. Enemies

The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff told servicemembers here that 2006 will be "a bad year for the enemies of the United States."

"I promise you that I won't forget who is doing the work when I make my recommendations" to the president and the National Security Council, Marine Gen. Peter Pace said at an air base near here as part of a United Service Organizations tour he is leading.

Pace, accompanied by his senior enlisted advisor Army Command Sgt. Maj. William J. Gainey, hosted the trip to thank servicemembers for their efforts in the war on terrorism. He visited Qatar, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Afghanistan, Iraq, Kuwait and Djibouti during the trip.

Pace spoke of the commitment that servicemembers demonstrate every day. He told servicemembers throughout the region to take time to think about all they have accomplished. "And it's not just in support of the global war on terror," he said. "You have been superb in everything you have been asked to do, whether it is tsunami relief in the Pacific, hurricane relief back home, or earthquake relief in Pakistan."

Anyone want to take odds on catching Osama or Zarqawi?

And, I guess Pace is also predicting a bad Mid-term election for the dems. I liked Myers, but I like Pace better.

I am not that optimistic, but I would guess there will be less attacks by terrorists in Iraq for 2006 compared to the following years, based on data.

Mullahs in Iran, this is where the focus must be, as they are building nukes and are allies of Al Qaeda. They would love nothing more than to nuke NYC and D.C., taking down the Great Satan.

They must be stopped.

My sentiments exactly. This is the focus. This is the mission.

But, I think there could be a big one in Europe or another Western country. Zarqawi is going to want to make up for less attacks in Iraq for more attacks elsewhere that will of course get more media then attacks in Iraq.

I have the feeling that Gen. Pace is a man of small physical stature but has huge cajones.

Could be. Iraq is done from a Global War perspective. Iran is the epicenter. Those bastards are killing our boys. They are funding the terrorists. Where is the Bush Doctrine? Cut off the head, save our boys... Quit screwing around.

Actually , he's a fairly good sized man. Rummy and the prior JCS, Richard Myers with General Pace are shown in this picture.

The odds of catching Zarqawi are well over 90%. His 'habitat for inhumanity' has been shrinking rapidly, and he's almost certainly running out of safe places to hide. Further, I suspect it'll be the Iraqis who catch him, and they almost certainly won't be taking him alive. I'm guessing that Wolf Brigade gets him before mid summer, and he's killed 'resisting arrest' or with a suicide vest.

As far as Bin Laden, all I'll say is that I assess the odds of a kill or capture to be closer to 15%.

I believe you are correct. I was used to seeing him stand next to Gen. Myers and always had the impression he was on the small side.
