MEXICO CITY, Jan 2 (Reuters) - Mexico demanded a U.S. investigation on Monday into the death of an undocumented Mexican shot by a U.S. Border Patrol agent as he tried to cross into California last week.
Raul Martinez, a spokesman for the U.S. Border Patrol in San Diego, confirmed that an agent had fired on a man on Friday as he tried to cross the border near San Diego, after the would-be immigrant had thrown rocks at him.
The unidentified man crossed back into Mexico, where he later died of his injuries in a hospital.
"The Mexican government is demanding an investigation of the facts," presidential spokesman Ruben Aguilar said at a news conference.
The shooting came weeks after a U.S. lawmaker proposed a controversial plan to fortify part of the U.S.-Mexico border with a high-tech wall to stop illegal immigrants.
The move was slammed by the Mexican government, which has long sought an agreement with Washington to formalize the status of millions of Mexicans living illegally in the United States and regulate the flow of immigrants heading north.
The shooting "shows once again that only a law that guarantees organized, legal and respectful entry (to the United States) can solve the problems posed by migration," Aguilar said.
Each year, an unknown number of Mexicans attempt to cross the deserts and rivers marking the 2,000-mile (3,200-km) border in search of work in the United States.
The U.S. Border Patrol arrested almost 1.2 million undocumented immigrants making the journey last year, while at least 464 died en route, many of heat exposure.
So says Mexico.
Higher powers willed him to be born in Mexico . Should have stayed there .

DONE.
Rocks thrown can kill, and throwing rocks at a guy with a gun is just plain retarded.
At least we didn't get stuck with paying for his medical care and then shipping his body back to Mexico.
I ain't too bright, but I've always been smart enough to never ever throw rocks at someone carrying a gun.
Nothing worse then bringing a rock to a gun fight.
Mexico demands....
The first illegal alien not to mooch off the US healthcare system. That's why Fox is mad.
The only Mexicans we should be "formalizing the status" of are the ones who come in here legally.

Was probably wounded in his pinkie finger but because of the quality of care in Mexican hospitals this was a fatal wound.
Even though this man had nothing but disdain for U.S. laws and law enforcement officers, had he succeeded in sneaking into America he would be called by our leadership a "temporary guest worker". As much as I don't like to slam Pres. Bush during these trying times, I wish somebody would remind him that people are 'guests' only when they are invited.
Well, even the cursory investigation [since they insist on it] shows that the Border Patrol agent concerned could use some time on the range, and will be sent there for additional training. The next perp will be shot better, and would not be able to crawl back.
If he'd stayed on the San Diego side of the border he'd still be alive.
Can't comprehend the care one might get on the Tijuana side.
Good for the Border Patrol agent! He should be given a medal. Maybe if a few more illegal criminals meet the dead scumbag's fate, they will stop coming here.
sticks and stones can break my bones but words can never hurt me.
LOL :)

I bet you're right.
Let's compare a pistol to......a rock..
Under stress, the average male can throw a rock at about 100 feet per second -- or a little over 60 miles an hour. Men seem to instinctively pick up rocks to throw that weigh about a pound. There are about 5,000 foot pounds of energy in that thrown rock. A pistol bullet weighs about 1/100th of a pound. A pistol "throws" that tiny "rock" ten times as fast as a human can throw a big rock or at about 1,000 feet per second. How much energy is there in that pistol shot? About 5,000 foot pounds -- which is the same energy as there was in that big rock.
