Another Happy Ending.
Excellent.
If someone is attempting to break down your door KNOWING you are at home, they are a danger. A warning "shot" would not have been my reaction. He would have gotten a warning CLIP
And this happened where?
ARGH!
If you ever want to sell that Broomhandle let me know.
Cretin who tried to prey on the elderly got the big surprise
Score one for the good guys
Seems like Boulder Co. best I can figure.

For some reason george76 cut off the city from the story. Here's how the first paragraph of the original stoy appears.
BOULDER - Deputies arrested an attempted burglar who was scared off by a homeowner who fired a shot in the air on New Year's Day.
I'd say it's probably Boulder, Colorado.
Good tagline.
Amen to the commentary but we need to do that with which we are comfortable. In some areas it would not be safe to do what they did!
Whacky to call us the land of the free some days.
Boulder! Good God, man! People don't move to Boulder to have guns around them!
"...on the 9100 block of Nelson Road...Boulder, Colorado."
Beat me by
This is probably an ideal outcome for this old couple. Good for them.
The rule is, if you're not willing to kill it; don't shoot at it.

I dont own a gun but I have wanted to buy one for home protection mostly because I am a female living alone. That and I went to a range and fired a gun (first a 38 revolver then a 45 semi) for the first time last year and I kind of liked it.
My father who was a WWII often told me that the best gun safety tip was to never point a gun at anyone unless you had intentions of killing them and Ive often wondered if I would shoot to kill an unwelcome invader and I think I could if I felt my life was in danger.
Ive had some conflicting advice over the years as to the best type of firearm for me for home protection shotgun or pistol. Im leaning toward a 38 revolver more reliable, better to keep in the nightstand, not likely to misfire or to shoot a hole in my neighbors townhouse.
Any Freepers care to give me suggestions?
Gadbois, Gadbois....What you gonna do when they shoot at you? Gadbois.
Obviously this chap never listened to Je$$e HiJackson or else he would have known to just 'Stay OUt'da Bushes!"
In the majority of Colorado the home invader would have been dead.
It is reckless and irresponsible to shoot over someones head in a residential (and most other areas).
Our laws protect the homeowner and hold him harmless (in the described instance) for any action taken against a home invader including any after the fact civil suit later on.
Well it could have been a Bergman or a Steyr Hahn.
