RE: "But in this story- I tend to think the REAL problem for Ford has been the UNIONS- not illegal immigrants"

Glad to see I misinterpreted the few replies I read -- but I recoil at the mention of tin foil hat. I have been a news fanatic since before Eisenhower was president, starting with the Korean War.

"Red under every bed," "Racist!" "tinfoil hat," and lots more are all epithets used by liberals last century to "argue" a point. It's just me. Sorry.

As far as blame unions -- somebody in management had to say yes to the demands. Unions usually picked one of the Big Three to strike. The Big Three could have united -- yes there were those pesky Japanese. Nevertheless both unions leaders and management share the blame but it does not affect their bank accounts.

The economy is doing pretty good though I wonder about how good are the government numbers -- ref. Post #71 (not mine) but regardless people are hurting as the economy makes adjustments to "globalization." Frankly I think it's too early for globalization -- we still have to finish this war and there's the really, really big one to deal with.

Then we'll globalize naturally.

Next thing you know, thugs from the OAS will be showing up at our front door demanding our vitamin supplements, chlorophyll tablets and St. John's Wort.

No, they're just in Haiti, demanding that it must put a democratically elected government in the National Palace by a constitutional deadline of Feb. 7 in order to assure its political legitimacy. No wait, thats Condoleeza Rice's statement. The OAS is just there setting up the election for her. No wait, the officials with the Organization of American States working to prepare Haiti for elections have been kidnapped in Port-au-Prince. I guess they'll have to postpone the election until the OAS can send in more people.

Calling my bluff? Yeah right. You're about 14 months too late for calling a bluff as it were. But I'm sure you have a point.

...by the same token we ought to do away with standing armies, jails and prisons, police, and criminal and admiralty courts..

Not real sure what you're talking about there Steve and I have no idea why you think I would be in favor of any of this. This country hasn't voted down a free trade agreement in my lifetime and our standard of living has risen dramatically. There is a direct correlation between the amount of economic freedom a country practices and their per capita GDP, political liberty and standard of living.

The Heritage Foundation offers an annual report proving that the countries with the most economic freedom also have higher rates of long-term economic growth and are more prosperous than are those with less economic freedom.

2005 Index of Economic Freedom

more enlightened economic policies should make all of that evil government overhead unnecessary too

Yes, reducing government control at every opportunity is a good thing. Creating barriers to trade is just another form of government control. Speaking of enlightened economic policies...I tend to like Milton Friedman. He said: Underlying most arguments against the free market is a lack of belief in freedom itself.

I think of treason as taking up arms and attacking my country. Well, I'm sure the Rosenbergs did too. As it happens, they never picked up arms and attacked the country. Amazingly, many of the people tried for treason, kicked out of the US, etc didn't take up arms against the country. You might look into some of Lincoln's doings with regard to traitors. It isn't an undefineable sum. Nor is it unclear. Treason is betrayal. And most have a pretty good gut instinct of what betrayal is.. even when they handwring publicly after the fact.

No sorry necessary at all!

I am a news nerd too...just a bit A.D.D., so I tend to get the "jist" of things more than attention to details....just the way my brain works, although on some things, I become a walking statistic concordance- LOL!

I feel you are right on the globalizing trend.... but I do believe that we need to be vigilant but not chicken little...

there is a balance..

I remember all the concern over the phone jobs going over seas....but while some jobs are moving overseas-- we are gaining other areas.. it is hard for some people... I mean a steelworker is not exactly the same skills one needs as a nurse.... but- change is growth in THIS country MOST of the time.... as long as it stays in growth- we are okay...I have had to "switch careers" a few times in my life-- it's not easy- but it is not anyone else's FAULT and it is not the gov't's job to fix it....

thanks so much for thoughtfully sahring so much of your knowledge on this.. it has been very helpful to me!

THANKS A LOT!!!

the buildyourownburgers and the Masons and the Jooooooooooos.

The buildyourownburgers? LOL! I thought those were the only jobs we're creating in this country these days - since we shipped all the others overseas in 40 ft. containers. I saw them being loaded in the port of Tampa!

Don't forget the Illuminati, I hear they can be very nasty.
