When I posted this link, I just saw the headline:

Town evacuated due to two fires; two more burning in eastern N.M.

I then went back and scanned the article, and saw this:

The town of Tatum is being evacuated because of two fires burning on the east and west sides of the town.

My folks used to live in Tatum and I attended 6th grade there for a while around 1960.

IIRC, Tatum is a town of about 600 people. The nearest towns of any size (for evacuees to go to) are some 20 miles away.

I know Tatums well. I don't know how long it has been since you've been to Tatums, but it is a very depressed and unkept area now. Tatums is very vulnerable to wildfires due to overgrowth and abandonded properties. I hope Tatums is safe. There are many fine people living there.

Remember King Knowles?
