Howdy everyone!

Happy New Year!!

2005 was a great year and we're looking forward to an even greater 2006! The Iraqis have held their elections and as democracy and freedom takes hold, it appears the terrorist violence has greatly subsided. We're hoping that the war in Iraq is just about over and that as the Iraqis take over responsibility for their own security, our troops can finally come home. God bless them all. We pray for peace in the Middle East.

On the home front, we see President Bush's numbers on the upswing and our confidence is growing regarding continuing conservative successes in the midterm elections this Fall. Judge Samuel Alito should be confirmed for the Supreme Court in the next few weeks and our hopes for a more conservative court will soon be realized.

September 23, 2006 will mark Free Republic's 10th year anniversary. It's hard to believe that 10 years have passed by so quickly. Time flies when you're having fun. We've been blessed with many successes on Free Republic over the years and are praying for continuing success in the future.

Thank you all very much for making Free Republic the very best conservative site on the web!! FReepers are the greatest!!

May God bless you all with peace and prosperity in the new year and much happiness in all the years to come.

1779 John Paul Jones victorious

During the American Revolution, the U.S. ship Bonhomme Richard, commanded by John Paul Jones, wins a hard-fought engagement against the British ships of war Serapis and Countess of Scarborough off the east coast of England.

Scottish-born John Paul Jones first sailed to America as a cabin boy and lived for a time in Fredericksburg, Virginia, where his brother had a business. He later served on slave and merchant ships and proved an able seaman. After he killed a sailor while suppressing a mutiny, he went to the American colonies to escape possible British prosecution. With the outbreak of the American Revolutionary War in 1775, he traveled to Philadelphia and was commissioned a senior lieutenant in the new Continental Navy. He soon distinguished himself in actions against British ships in the Bahamas, the Atlantic, and the English Channel.

In August 1779, Jones took command of the Bonhomme Richard and sailed around the British Isles. On September 23, the Bonhomme Richard engaged the Serapis and the smaller Countess of Scarborough, which were escorting the Baltic merchant fleet. After inflicting considerable damage to the Bonhomme Richard, Richard Pearson, the captain of the Serapis, asked Jones if he had struck his colors, the naval sign indicating surrender. From his disabled ship, Jones replied, "I have not yet begun to fight," and after three more hours of furious fighting the Serapis and Countess of Scarborough surrendered to him. After the victory, the Americans transferred to the Serapis from the Bonhomme Richard, which sunk the following day.

Jones was hailed as a great hero in France, but recognition in the United States was somewhat belated. He continued to serve the United States until 1787 and then served briefly in the Russian navy before moving to France, where he died in 1792 at the age of 45, amid the chaos of the French Revolution. He was buried in an unmarked grave. In 1905, his remains were located under the direction of the U.S. ambassador to France and then escorted back to America by U.S. warships. His body was later enshrined in a crypt at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.

BTT for the Free Republic Freepathon for the first quater of 2006.

As many of you know, FR is funded soley by reader donations. This means that without the financial and thread bumping of people like you and me this viable soucre of news information wouldn't.

FR provides the most up-to-date news and information, news you won't get anywhere else. It also provides people like myself an opprotunity for friendships with people from other parts of the country.

FR also privides conservatives the chance to comment on issues of public importance without having to deal with the bullying and tomenting antics by all of the Bill Clinton and John Kerry types. Something that unfortunately has become all too common on a lot of the local and regional message boards.

As you know this year is an election year. We will be voting on a number of Congressional seats as well some local and state races. These elections will determine whether or not we as conservatives will be able to continue to address issues of public of public importance without having to worry about repurcussions from Democrats, liberals progressives or moderates.

That's why FR is so vital to us, so that wecan continue to do these things without having our indentities revealed. Those on the left do not have our nation's best interest in their hearts and minds. Their only interest is the reacquision of power so they can missuse and abuse to commit acts of punitiveness aganist those who there to cross them.

There was an article yesterday about an Oklahoma State Legislature, Gene Stipe. He had been in the legislature for 55 years before he was forced to retire after being caught with acts of irregularity. He was one of those who had a knack for missuing and abusing his power. The folks in McCalester I'm sure will know about this. The named a street after him ten years ago without public imput but last Tuesday they changed it back to Electric Avenue.

So, the bottom is we have some work to do. Please help if you can. Donate to FR or if can't do so, bump this thread so those who can donate will know that this is going on.

Let's keep FR running. O.K. folks. Happy New Year!!!!!!!

Regards......

:-) Good luck! We were watching "Flip that house". Oh my gosh, the one guy who really put quality at the forefront (structural over decor) -- he hardly made any money at all. I felt very sorry for him.
