NEW YORK -- There was more to celebrate than the ball dropping in Times Square for Dick Clark _ the personality who's been ringing in the New Year for decades made his first television appearance since a stroke in late 2004.
Clark, sitting behind a desk with the street scene in the background, sounded hoarse and occasionally was hard to understand, but he said, "I wouldn't have missed this for the world."
"Last year I had a stroke," he explained. "It left me in bad shape. I had to teach myself how to walk and talk again. It's been a long, hard fight. My speech is not perfect but I'm getting there."

She'll be hot forever, just like my wife, who turned 45 last week.

We were waiting thru the first hour and a half of ABC coverage just to see Dick. Now that we have, our combined opinion was that if that were my spouse I wouldn't have let him do the coverage he did.
It was pretty depressing to see Dick in such bad shape. That is not how I want to remember him. He slurred his words badly, he lost track of what he was saying, and the backwards count down threw him a curve ball. Several of my friends commented today that they changed the channel. I wonder what the ratings were for last 1/2 hour of coverage.
I admire his courage and strength but think someone should have known he wasn't in shape for a NY's eve celebration. Will pray he recovers enough for next year.

In that case, they missed the Bangles.

I know what you are saying, but there comes a time we as a people need to start maturing a kind of graciousness for one of us who has fallen on hardtimes will always be welcome...
There we too will have arrive at unconditional love in our own psych....is it not all part of the healing process?
By doing so, maybe we too will be able to accept life short falls and maybe lessen the pressures to regain all or some recovery God willing!

Well, I took a gander at the link about kudzu, but I don't see the connection to kwaanzaa (kwanzaa?). Anyway, my kwaanzaa wishes were designed to annoy, as the poster called me pitiful.
Again, I like Dick Clark and I wish him well--I just don't think it was the best idea to do that show. What a bastard I am!

Yes, I was proud of him. I hope he keeps improving. Kirk Douglas has been fighting hard too.

I can't figure out why Mariah Carey, who makes millions, always looks like a cheap hooker. LOL. You're so right. She's no Greer Garson, Deborah Kerr, Myrna Loy, or a number of other fine ladies of the past.
;-)
I must be getting old.

I think it is very telling how this thread has gone. There is little respect for human dignity in all its phases these days. ........... I wish Dick Clark well in his continued recovery I agree. See post # 59 for perhaps a thought on your comments.

He forgot to drink from his "cup o' kindness" this year:
Should auld acquaintance be forgot, And never brought to mind? Should auld acquaintance be forgot, And days of auld lang syne? And days of auld lang syne, my dear, And days of auld lang syne. Should auld acquaintance be forgot, And days of auld lang syne?
We twa hae run aboot the braes And pu'd the gowans fine. We've wandered mony a weary foot, Sin' auld lang syne. Sin' auld lang syne, my dear, Sin' auld lang syne, We've wandered mony a weary foot, Sin' auld ang syne. |
|
We twa hae sported i' the burn, From morning sun till dine, But seas between us braid hae roared Sin' auld lang syne. Sin' auld lang syne, my dear, Sin' auld lang syne. But seas between us braid hae roared Sin' auld lang syne. And ther's a hand, my trusty friend, And gie's a hand o' thine; We'll tak' a cup o' kindness yet, For auld lang syne. For auld lang syne, my dear, For auld lang syne, We'll tak' a cup o' kindness yet, For auld lang syne.

It was pretty depressing to see Dick in such bad shape. That is not how I want to remember him. --- Well then, just think back to the good old Philly Bandstand days.
I admire his courage and strength but think someone should have known he wasn't in shape for a NY's eve celebration. --- Yes, perhaps he and his people might have wanted to give him a little less responsiblity.
Will pray he recovers enough for next year. --- me too.

See, my liberal friend Jim the Freak thinks Hoffs is hot as well. I always thought her nose was too low-budget-porn-star.
