How long will it be before some secular civil liberties troglodyte sues to remove the gravestones at military battlefields like Normandy, France and Ardennes, Belgium?
Most of these grave markers are crosses (you may remember the emotional scene in "Saving Private Ryan" which was filmed at the Normandy cemetery) and the memorial/cemetery sites are managed by the American Battle Monuments Commission, an agency of the Executive Branch of the Federal Government.
The Commission guardian of Americas overseas commemorative cemeteries and memorials honors the service, achievements and sacrifice of United States Armed Forces.
The Commissions commemorative mission includes:
* Designing, constructing, operating and maintaining permanent American cemeteries in foreign countries.
* Establishing and maintaining U.S. military memorials, monuments and markers where American Armed Forces have served overseas since April 6, 1917, and within the U.S. when directed by public law.
* Controlling the design and construction of permanent U.S. military monuments and markers by other U.S. citizens and organizations, both public and private, and encouraging their maintenance.
From the American Battlefield Monuments Commission website (http://www.abmc.gov) here is a listing of these cemeteries:
Aisne-Marne, France
Ardennes, Belgium
Brittany, France
Brookwood, England
Cambridge, England
Corozal, Panama
Epinal, France
Flanders Field, Belgium
Florence, Italy
Henri-Chapelle, Belgium
Lorraine, France
Luxembourg, Luxembourg
Manila, Philippines
Meuse-Argonne, France
Mexico City, Mexico
Netherlands, Netherlands
Normandy, France
North Africa, Tunisia
Oise-Aisne, France
Rhone, France
Sicily-Rome, Italy
Somme, France
St. Mihiel, France
Suresnes, France
Will these crass civil libertarians also demand that we dig up any of the dead who may have been buried with a crucifix because the dead are buried in public cemeteries?
How far will these outrageous secular groups take this issue?
Apparently when it comes to the ACLU and busybody hypersensitive atheists, even America's dead who sacrificed all for our country are not safe from their outrageousness.
Intolerant bigots.
Enough is enough. People are truly getting sick of these ACLU terrorist thugs bullying the rest of us with their commie ideals and religion. The tide is starting to turn.
Maybe they would find it more acceptable if Steel Crosses were used only to memorialize Christian troopers who died. Steel Stars of David could be used for Jewish ones, Steel Question marks for Agnostics, and Dull Rusty Steel Butcher Knives for Muslims.
I'm offended by atheists using ZEROES on public property. Can I sue?
That is their right.
But, in America, all the Christians know that they cannot shut down the Jewish Temples. And all the Jews know that they cannot shut down the mosques. And all the Muslims ... well, you get the idea.
But the Atheists are different. It is their goal to stomp down on everyone who believes differently than they do. I say: if Atheists want to declare their non-belief a type of Religion, then I think they deserve legal protection. But, if they say they have no religion, then I think activists who try to punish people who do have a religion should have no legal standing, and should be stomped out as un-American. And I think the government should participate in the persecution of this un-American activity. Those who believe have protection under the First Amendment. To persecute believers is un-American.
I mean it. I'm tired of this crap.
It would be interesting for the families of the fallen to file a counter-suit declaring taking the crosses away was sponsoring a state religion of atheism.
If they are atheists how could they be bothered? To them they have no more meaning than the tread from a semi laying on a guard rail.
I am offended by atheism. The only way I can see to appease people like me is to prohibit any public displays which omit references to our Creator. There is no other way to resolve this dispute.
Well I'm not crazy about these roadside "memorials". How many are we supposed to allow? An endless number? Look, I don't drive in your cemetary, don't put your headstones on my highway! YOU'RE BUMMING ME OUT! And they say it's for "safety". It's not for safety. You're driving along and suddenly "hey, what's that? A teddy bear? is that a wreath?.....AHHHHH..CRASH!
Tributes to loved ones belong in cemetaries.
Of course I hate the ACLU too. But stop decorating the highways.
This is absolute bulls**t! Why don't they mind their own damned business? Roadside memorials don't hurt anyone. It's not like athiests are being forced to observe them at gunpoint. If they find religious symbols that offensive, they can always use another street.

"It's morally disgraceful for a small group of activists to try to stop the families of state troopers who were killed in the line of duty from honoring their lost loved ones,"
Good grief. Why do inanimate objects offend these people?
Or is it the implied spirituality they fear most or because they suffer from lack of an ability to comprehend and accept that we are all spiritual creatures by nature?
One does hope these jerks will be noted in death with a wooden stake through the heart.
