PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: President Bush, the First Lady, the dogs and cat, and their family are spending the New Year's holiday at their Texas ranch.
On this New Year's Eve, 2005, although mindful of those who will not continue the journey with us into 2006, it seemed to me we should celebrate happy times. That is the theme of this last Dose thread of 2005.
QUOTE OF THE DAY: From the first Inaugural Address of President George W. Bush, January 20, 2001.
Americans are generous and strong and decent, not because we believe in ourselves, but because we hold beliefs beyond ourselves. When this spirit of citizenship is missing, no government program can replace it. When this spirit is present, no wrong can stand against it.After the Declaration of Independence was signed, Virginia statesman John Page wrote to Thomas Jefferson: ``We know the race is not to the swift nor the battle to the strong. Do you not think an angel rides in the whirlwind and directs this storm?''
Much time has passed since Jefferson arrived for his inauguration. The years and changes accumulate. But the themes of this day he would know: our nation's grand story of courage and its simple dream of dignity.
We are not this story's author, who fills time and eternity with his purpose. Yet his purpose is achieved in our duty, and our duty is fulfilled in service to one another.
Never tiring, never yielding, never finishing, we renew that purpose today, to make our country more just and generous, to affirm the dignity of our lives and every life.
This work continues. This story goes on. And an angel still rides in the whirlwind and directs this storm.
You're going to school this year, right? How is it going? Glad you're relaxing between semesters. What have I been doing? Laundry, cooking, raising kids, chasing dogs, trying to figure out what to do with my life, :-), repeat . . . not complaining . . . just giving you the facts.
This is for you genealogists out there. I have learned to type in the obit into my FTM so I will not have to cut it out of the paper of print it to do later. It sure has saved me time.
I doubt that my 101 year old mom has been told about her nephew's death. What good would it do her to know?
LOL
I'm currently addicted to French's Hot-N-Spicy Mustard--it's an acquired taste :)
And Happy New Year to you, FF!
Kipling might as well be living now in these times, Wolfstar! Thanks for printing the poem. I've always loved it.
When Clintoon was re-elected, my MIL was in SC at a relative's wedding. She could not believe how passionate they were in their belief that he was a "good guy."
lol~
The spicer the mustard, the better - I like the ones with a little horseradish in 'em (but just a LITTLE!)
Isn't it fun to get those personal notes from the Pres.? He's been sending them to me for quite some time (shhhhhh) but I told him he should write to you, too, since you're such a fan of his. I'm glad he took my advice (he usually does).
:-)
Yeah, I noticed you eating that last night ... as I was tapping on the kitchen window.
:)
Happy New Year everyone!
I love the pic of just George and Laura's hands...so much meaning there.
I worked for a guy for a couple of years beginning in 1994 who was from Arkansas. He despised Clinton. His mom lived there and he had many family & friends still there, and he swore to me there were more people in Arkansas who were happy that Clinton was elected prez so that they were rid of him. It's a bit convoluted but I believed him.
I'm hardcore--I eat horseradish straight out of the jar. Puts hair on your chest ;)
LOL! Mr.FF can do that, but he's from Hungarian & Russian stock!
***Yeah, I noticed you eating that last night ... as I was tapping on the kitchen window. ***
Oh, was that YOU out there? You poor thing, that must have been you I saw earlier eating the bird seed. I thought our bluejay had returned early this year. Sorry, Jonny, but with the wind blowing your hair into a crest and your blue face, it was a natural mistake. (Did you enjoy the suet I put out there?)
Over Christmas, I got my dad to try horseradish. He'll eat anything, especially if it's spicy. But one taste of horseradish about knocked him off his feet :)
School is going well. I got a 3.7 GPA for last semester :) Yayyy! I don't go back until January 16th. Sounds like you're having fun. At least you didn't have to write 2 10 page papers and a 15 page paper...
Oh you think you're funny don't you! From now on I'll be communticating to you only through my lawyer. See you in court!
Gotta run right now guys, so everyone have a great New Year's!
I'm so sorry for your daughter, altura.
My husband and I have talked several times about FIL and the love for him that was around him, if only he had accepted it. Your daughter's husband sounds like such a man, as perhaps your neighbors, kitkat. My FIL refused to accept anyone's love for him, and now he has alienated soooo many people who will never offer that love again, and with his injury he may never be able to feel that love even if it is offered to him again.
You are very right that people must be happy with themselves and not expect other people to "give" them happiness. It is very sad when people do not realize that.
Good night :)

Oh, yeah, SURE! I'm scared! I'm calling Mystery as a witness.
