After hearing audio of that weasel Eleanor Holmes Norton this am on the radio calling for the "censor" of the President, this makes my day. It's about time the pubs fight back!

"I want to see some Journalists FROG MARCHED!"

Seems to me that the more likely targets are the government officials (Senators, State Department officials, etc) that leaked the information.

The media can hide behind freedom of the press. Government officials were explicitly instructed NOT to disclose this information.

You are correct.

They will scream first amendment rights of course. The freedom of the press gig. That is the only portion of the Bill of Rights they admit exists, the first amendment.

OK, I'm running up to the concession stand to get the Super Deluxe Double-Sized Popcorn, extra butter, extra salt. Should I get you a soda or a beer? You'll save my seat, right?

So what exactly protects journalists from prosecution for leaking classified materials? And what exactly immunizes them from revealing their sources that comprimise national security?

They'll hide in that grey area of the Constitution, no doubt...

I'd put my money on Rockefeller and John Kerry - both covertly cabal with the enemy.

There is as much overt activity with the enemy as covert.

This could wind up being the ultimate battle between the new and old media.

Though this IS good news, dont be surprised when the leaking sources turn out to be certain RINOs on the Hill.

I say let the chips fall where they may. This is a matter of national security.

Regarding McCain, I seem to recall that he came out saying that the NSA surveillance program was within the President's powers.

You are correct about State.

I actually suspect Congress more than State or CIA as this NSA was Condi's expertise and I think she would have established extreme measures to stop leaks, especially those that could be used to politically damage her.

These leaks if a political hack had desires to use them could well be used to necklace Condi in the future.

In my opinion- I think at least one senator had something to do with this.

Think about it- Senator Rockefellar seems to be hiding right now and I wonder why?

I have no evidence- I just got a gut feeling.

It will be interesting to see who lawyers up.

I am wondering the same. How leaky will be the DOJ investigation be?

Also, has the Republican Congress made any moves at all to investigate itself?

journalists will get a pass. the leakers will be punished.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Justice Department has opened an investigation into the leak of classified information about President Bush's secret domestic spying program, Justice officials said Friday.
The officials, who requested anonymity because of the sensitivity of the probe, said the inquiry will focus on disclosures to The New York Times about warrantless surveillance conducted by the National Security Agency since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Get Alito on the SCOTUS before the trials start and that argument will go "poof"...
