Wrong about that. Carroll just wants more money and to figure out some way to use the technology to stretch the mileage of a racecar.

Two Toyotas, two Hondas and one Ford (using licensed technology from Toyota, I believe).

No GM and no Daimler-Chrysler. However a consortium was recently announced for joint development of alternative vehicle technology; consisting of GM, DC and BMW.

About 12 years ago, Ben and Harold Rosen began a company designed to build a gas fired diesel electric engine for autos. Here is a link about their attempt.

Two very smart guys were working on this problem long ago. Their solution didn't require massive batteries as today's hybrids do. They wanted to provide engines only - car manufacturers balked.

One wonders just how far along this technology would be today if they could have garnered some investment capital...
