(CNN) -- In what may be a sign that Abu Musab al-Zarqawi's terror group is expanding its operations, Al Qaeda in Iraq has posted a statement claiming responsibility for firing missiles from Lebanon into northern Israel earlier this week.

The statement, posted Thursday on Web sites used previously by al Qaeda in Iraq, cannot be independently verified by CNN.

Maybe Al Qaeda is demoralized about not pulling off any big attacks lately, and trying to claim credit for whatever they can.

On the other hand, maybe al-Qaeda is kaput and hopes that by stirring up trouble with Israel they can regain some of the lost luster that blowing up everyone has caused.

The best part, it clearly signals al-Qaeda is kaput, and nothing al-Rooters can do can put it back together again.
