Last week, Washington County authorities arrested four people for allegedly growing marijuana at three different homes in Saint Paul Park.
The big bust resulted in the seizure of more than 2,000 pot plants.
It began last Monday at 1335 3rd St., where authorities opened the door and found 365 marijuana plants.
Sheriff Steve Pott called it part of the biggest marijuana growing operation in recent memory.
"For some reason people don't see (marijuana) as glamorous as cocaine or methamphetamine, but it's one of the more common drugs," he said, "especially in Washington County."
An anonymous tipster led investigators to the house on 3rd Street, and to two other homes just blocks away. Between the three locations, Pott said authorities collected 2100 plants, with a total estimated street value of $250,000.
"Between the three (locations)," Pott said, "we estimate them (producing) about a million dollars worth of marijuana a year."
Pott said he didn't know if the three operations are linked, even though the three houses are located in the same neighborhood.
Four people now face charges felony drug charges:
James R. Super, of Minneapolis, faces the most serious charges. He was found inside the house on 3rd Street and charged with second- and third-degree felonies for possession and intent to distribute. He also is charged with a firearms violation for possessing a handgun.
Authorities arrested Jennifer L. Rolfing, and Jeremiah Hirman, at 8084 Grey Cloud Island Drive. Both are residents of Forest Lake, and both were charged with fifth-degree manufacturing and possession offenses.
Nicholas A. Lebow was arrested at 1190 Main Street and faces a third-degree manufacturing charge.
When investigators found the plants, they also found elaborate lighting, heating and watering systems.
These were people who took their marijuana seriously, Sheriff Pott said.
I get a hair cut about once every two months. It costs $8 each time, and my wife can attest that my hair looks excellent. My wife can also attest that I don't pull in a quarter of a million dollars a year. So yes, I am serious. They could have afforded decent haircuts.
TODD CUNNINGHAM--SON OF U.S. REP. RANDY "DUKE" CUNNINGHAM (R-CA): In Boston, Todd Cunningham, 29, was sentenced on November 17 to 2-1/2 years in federal prison for marijuana smuggling. Rep. Cunningham, who has supported the death penalty for drug traffickers, made a tearful plea to U.S. Judge Reginald C. Lindsay for leniency for his son. Prosecutors supported the sentence, which is half the mandatory five-year term for such an offense, because Cunningham provided information about other offenders involved in the smuggling operation. It was Cunningham's first conviction (Bill Murphy, "Son of lawmaker sentenced to prison," SAN DIEGO UNION TRIBUNE, November 18, 1998).
Prosecutors had agreed to recommend a 14-to-18-month term in boot camp and a halfway house for Cunningham, but the Representative's son tested positive three times for cocaine while released on bail. On the day of the third failed drug test, Cunningham tried to escape authorities by jumping out a window onto a restaurant roof, breaking his leg. He is scheduled to participate in drug treatment while in prison, which, if successful, may reduce his sentence by as much as a year.
Todd Cunningham was arrested on January 17, 1997, by DEA agents for flying more than 400 pounds of marijuana into Lawrence Municipal Airport in North Andover, Massachusetts (see "U.S. Rep. Cunp;ningham's Son Charged With Drug Trafficking," NEWSBRIEFS, February 1997, p. 30).
On August 14, 1997, Cunningham pleaded guilty to possession and conspiracy to sell marijuana. He also admitted to helping smuggle two other shipments of marijuana out of California (Bill Murphy, "Lawp;maker's son pleads guilty," SAN DIEGO UNION TRIBUNE,, August 15, 1998).
If they make this stuff legal (pot) and tax the living hell out of it, the guvmint will have more money than they know what to do with.
Sorry if this upsets some who think smoking pot is wrong. It's no more wrong than Alcohol which is also a product of natural substances.
If they want to smoke it, grow it, let 'em.
Chemical Drugs are a different matter.
If he didn't pay taxes ...
ROFLOL ... How'd you know which one I meant?
I feel safer now. How about the rest of you? Do we all feel safer now?
Not nearly as common as nicotine and alcohol, however, which remain completely legal despite their contibution to the death of thousands of people each year.
Wow, your a sarcastic one, aren't you?
Fawn,
Grind up some of that pot and sprinkle it on the kittyburgher.
YUMMIE!
BTW, did we resolve the issue of the nuked kitty on that other thread?
It's kinda obvious. Not suprised old Duke came to such an ignoble end.
Hey, man, nothing's more glamorous than pot!
My neighbors got busted growing 300+ pot plants and said it was for personal use. This was before we moved here. Police couldn't prove one sale and only the guy (and not his wife) got 3 years in prison.
authorities collected 2100 plants, with a total estimated street value of $250,000.
I swear, I never can figure out how they get these prices...
sometimes a plant is worth $500, or it's worth $1000 or $1500.
Police today estimated joe blows 2oz stash at $750,000.
Must have been killer weed eh.
You know, I know its sarcasm, but everyone else might not.
Well hell, then we gotta start shootin all those who skip on their income tax too.
And those who cheat on sales tax.
Just damn, we could start a real shootin gallery round here!
I'm betting Lebow has some anger issues.
They look like some folks I ride with.
Damn.
You should see me on a South Park thread.

Lighten up, Francis...
That's just the kind of immature response I would expect from a South Park fan. Don't you have any cartoons to waste your time with tonight? I'll expect to see you on some pro-marijuana threads in the future.
Where's Old Cracker when you need him?
"An anonymous tipster "
aka the lowest of all life forms upon the planet.
Regardless, our streets will be much safer with these scuzz removed and the new grower/dealers in place.
