OK so you like Tom Cruise,

Typical--you don't like the facts, so you start with a snide crack. I couldn't care less about Cruise. I haven't seen most of his movies. I just like it when people talk about facts, as opposed to what they wish were true. But if you wanna be snide, I can be snide, too. I'd just prefer to discuss facts.

If you knew the first thing about movie economics you'd understand why. And in facvt you misrepresented what I posted--I showed the numbers WITHOUT those additional streams of revenue, and they're STILL big hits.

Still they were not blockbusters in the theatres.

Yup--seven movies making over $100 mil and two of them over $200 mil aren't blockbusters. Please, stay out of the accounting business.

You're certainly correct that he's made lots of money, but I hold to my opinion that Minority Report, etc. sucked as movies.

Who cares? That's your opinion, you're welcome to it. Apparently you've seen more of his movies than I have, and yet you say *I* like Cruise. Little projection there? Ashamed of seeing all of your buddy Tommy's movies? (Why would you keep seeing all these movies when they all suck? Are you compelled to see Tommy's movies?)

Definitely your weakest point is you tried to rehabilitate Eyes Wide Shut in some fashion. The movie was boring (great director had lost his mojo) and it was definitely a financial, artistic and critical flop. Actually I dig the trial scene at the orgy, with all the masks. Good sound and imagery. Otherwise a loser.

Your need to distance yourself from your love for Cruise movies is really odd. (Almost as odd as your enjoying an orgy scene in some Cruise movie.) I made one quick comment about EWS--that it wasn't a total box office disaster. This seems to have disturbed you for some reason. Our opinions on these movies do not matter when we're discussing whether Cruise was ruined by EWS--which was your original point, remember? He wasn't--thanks to people like you, who claim to dislike him, yet pay to see all his movies in secret.

You claimed Eyes Wide Shut ruined Cruise. In fact, he's become even more successful than ever before since EWS. You were wrong. Case closed.

Dude, you take a discussion of Tom Cruise and movies way too personally. I stand by my statements that Cruise has at most given 3 strong perormances. And in my house, and on a thread about how annoying Cruise is, my personal view does matter. There's really no need to call me a "closet" Tom Cruise fan, I watch lots and lots of movies, even multiple times, and even when I see them as flawed. I would say I have watched all of these Cruise movies multiple times, and Cruise is not even a blip on my radar screen when it comes to movie watching.

Further, while Tom Cruise and Tom Cruise movies have still made some money, his recent ventures have been a disappointment versus expectations and his draw at the box office and as a star is viewed by many as being on the decline. And i stick to my view in general that the wrong roles ruin an actor's image with the public. Just a few examples:

Meg Ryan destroyed her career by trying to switch to tough, dislikable characters; Mary Tyler Moore lost her beloved image by playing a cold hearted bitch in Ordinary people; Richard Gere was in the dumps and ridiculed for years after appearing on film with a small penis (his own) until resurrected by Chicago, and the list goes on. And Cruise damaged himself by being depicted as extraordinarily short in Eyes Wide Shut.
