Okay, sorry, I'm really not trying to upset you. If I took it the wrong way, well it was indeed a scary experience. Truce?

Several of you folks seem confused about the flu. Influenza is 'the flu' and it affects your lungs and bronchial area, you do not vomit and poop

Below are the common symptoms for the flu, copied and pasted from the Centers for Disease Control website. Note the last symptom:

Symptoms of flu include:

fever (usually high); headache; extreme tiredness; dry cough; sore throat; runny or stuffy nose; muscle aches; stomach symptoms, such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, also can occur but are more common in children than adults

I know that. There are a number of strains of flu out there every season too, some worse than others. That's why you can get a flu shot and still get a different strain of the flu that wasn't covered by the shot. Some times it takes weeks or months to get your strength back. Some years our whole family would get it and some of us would be sicker than others.

You're most welcome. It was a case of "killer flu" in 1983 during which I could keep no foods or liquids down, that drained me of strength, like you say, for a month or more. It convinced me to get the flu shot each year when it is available. I haven't had a severe case of flu since.

We lived in a small Texas town near the coast from '63 to '79. In the winter the entire town had the flu and we had it every year. Some years maybe one person (in our family) would escape it but some years one person might have several strains. That is when I became very well acquainted with the flu. In '79 we moved to Houston and we haven't had the flu since, and also we started getting yearly flu shots some time after we moved.

Down in Yuma this Flu has been running rampant. It's hitting most everyone. I came down with it almost 3 weeks ago and I am still weak and coughing.

Starts with headaches, sneezing, runny nose, sore throat, then rapidly changes into Bronchial problems, muscle aches and weakness.

This strain missed this years Flu shots mix.

I am hoping I will finally be finished with it this week. It is taking turns going thru every member of the family.

I took antibiotics for 10 days and that reduced it's impact some, and used Zicam for the runny nose...helped right away with the cold like symptoms. Still I don't know what to do about the weakness. Maybe a few shots of Ceurvo Gold will help?

At least I won't care if I'm feeling weak and might get some much needed sleep!

I got the flu shots just a couple of weeks ago. The nurse told me it was for the protection against the ;standard variety strains! Not any unusual types!

Cold comfort!

Is Sambucol syrup for the flu? YES YES YES. This will kill the virus. Must keep it on hand. First signs of the flu must start taking it immediately. I always keep it on hand also kills the cold virus.

I've got it here in Tucson, but I haven't run to the emergency room!

Right? I don't understand normal adults who have the flu going to the ER, bumping up the wait time for people (children and the elderly) who may actually be in danger of being sick...or people who have other emergencies (broken arms or whatever.) My husband was sick last week, and yes, he turns into a baby when he's sick, but I didn't make him go to the ER!

Last week my family ended up with this 24 hour flu. Found out it hit a lot of people at church too. This week we found out the kids have chicken pox. Still have no idea where they were exposed to it.

Emergency room for the flu? Unless there are some life threatening effects at the time, it does seem silly, doesn't it? "I feel like I'm going to die." is not a reason to sit around for 10 hours waiting in an emergency room. If they can sit for 10 hours, it probably isn't so life threatening. Notice that things like heart attacks and real emergencies were given top priority.

Sambucol...health food store...buy syrup w/out sugar. VERY IMPORTANT to start before flu has a foot hold. It's a virus killer. Grapefruit seed extract is also supposed to be a good way to kill off the flu. Nasty bitter stuff, though.

Actually this is totally normal for this time of year. The area goes thru it every season and it's brought on by all the snowbirds [migrating white haired retiree's that move south every winter] from Canada & Minnesota bringing their crud with them.

We're all gonna die!!!!

IIRC, there is a pneumonia vaccine which protects against many bacterial pneumonias (not all, but many). This could be a lifesaver.

THAT's the flu. Most of what is considered "flu" these days is bronchitus, sinusitus,URI,allergies. Most everyone can rid themselves of this "flu" by going to an ear/nose/throat specialist.I remember the FLU.Had it when I was around 9 years old.Fever(104),headache so bad you can't stand any light, dizziness to the point that you can't get up without puking, can't eat or drink ANYTHING without puking(crushed ice will stay down sometimes),muscle and joint aches, sore throat,(don't remember a cough),and a stuffy nose.I remember my sister telling my mom I looked dead laying in the bed like I was.I was just waking up when I heard her.Arms crossed and pale.

My mother-in-law gave me a bottle of "Airborne" tablets (like Alka Seltzer) supposed to help against the onset of colds, flue, etc. I've taken a couple when I've felt like I might be on the edge of something and it seemed to help...(can be purchased at Wal-Mart)

I'll look for it.I've been using Zicam with decent results.I have bad sinus problems,as do most who live in this area.I can get by with DayQuil until they get infected.Once the infection sets in bad enough,I have to take anti-biotics.When they get infected,I have muscle aches and fever, sore throat, and sometimes it turns to bronchitus from the infection running down during sleep.Allegra-D helps mine as well.
