French Hostage 'Shown In Video'(FRENCH TROOPS MUST WITHDRAW FROM IRAQ TERRORISTS WIN DARWIN AWARD)
BBC ^ | 12/28/05

A militant group in Iraq has threatened to kill a French water engineer seized three weeks ago, unless France ends its "illegitimate presence" in the country. A video apparently showing hostage Bernard Planche held at gunpoint was broadcast by Arab channel Al-Arabiya.

The channel said the previously unknown armed group had demanded the withdrawal of French troops from Iraq. France has not sent forces to the country.

Mr Planche was abducted by gunmen from his home in Baghdad's Mansour district.

France, in response, has dispatched a planeload of troops
to Iraq, so that they can be immediately withdrawn.

The French could win their first battle by sending 1 soldier INTO IRAQ to shun the terrorist's demands.

There is a possibility that they are there in the same sense that there are a few dozen Canadians that were assigned to American units for cross training and deployed with the US when they went in. The Canuck government is loathe to acknowledge their presence but it (at least at the beginning) was real.

You've got to be kidding. We don't call them cheese-eating surrender monkeys for nothing. Of course they'll negotiate and Bernie will be home if not by New Year's Eve, then certainly by Easter. Count on it. Cheese-eating surrender monkeys will be cheese-eating surrender monkeys.
