MISSION U.S. Sen. John Cornyn said Tuesday that building a fence along the southwest border is unrealistic and ultimately would not deter illegal immigration into the United States.
Cornyn, R-Texas, was in Mission on Tuesday to discuss flood control and the Rio Grande Valley levee system, but spoke briefly with the media about immigration issues and his plan to allow workers into the country legally but temporarily. He said he would not support a bill calling for a security fence which could start in California and end in Brownsville although the U.S. House of Representatives approved the measure last week. The Senate will discuss the measure when they reconvene next year, and Cornyn said immigration would be a pertinent issue.
He expects a compromise between the Senate and the House on immigration bills.
"(The wall) is a 19th century solution to a 21st century problem," Cornyn said, calling for a more comprehensive immigration plan. Millions of immigrants, both documented and undocumented, cross daily through the southwest border and Cornyn said his bill permits workers to enter for a set time period, calls for increased enforcement at the border and more investigations into employers that hire illegal immigrants.
Hidalgo Mayor John David Franz said he would oppose any wall cutting through his border city.
"I think we need to be looking at amicable solutions," he said. "(A wall) would put us back 100 years. A wall isnt going to solve anything."
Or, do you have doors and windows (which lock) in all of those holes in your house? Somehow, I think that you do.
Please, when you talk down to us like we are retarded six year olds, it is you who sounds foolish.
But thanks for keeping the thread going. Each reply means 15 more casual lurkers will read about the American Quislings, who want to keep the borders wide open to the illegal alien invasion.
Okay, your comment makes sense if we have locked all the other borders and the border with Mexico is the last unlocked one.
Otherwise, it doesn't.
Just curious...Do you think the federal government should foot the entire bill for the fence and tougher immigration or should the states help foot the bill?
AND approves of a guest worker program. Guess who won't be getting my vote when he comes up for re-election?
If you ask for donations to build the fence, you would receive Billions -- far more than enough to build the fence. I will be the first in line with my checkbook.
At the bottom of the page, write him a note. We need many to let him know how we feel.
Agree a proper fence is a must, those who say it won't work just don't understand the layered defense in depth that such a device will offer in the "populated regions" such as your AO. Folks don't seem to understand that this problem is solved "only" with a combination of physical, environmental, electronic and human deterrents with added political pressure on bordering countries (cut all aid to canookistan and mexico if they can't secure their side) and a legal force of arrest for those that employ or harbor such criminals & deportation of those found .
Cornyn is a panderer....I have met him and spoke with him during visits to my arena. He's a typical polidiot whos all yes, yes , yes, I agree to the person in front of him.
Just my opinions of course.....Neighborhood watch programs expanded to the borders such as we see with the minutemen is key for areas where such crossings are popular for the criminals entering the CONUS illegally.
Stay safe !!
What you are saying makes sense to me based on polls I have seen.
I'm not sure that Anglo Republicans realize Hispanic American citizens' true views on this issue.
As for subsidizing exploiters of cheap labor - I agree with you. I understand the fast food industry is one of the biggest exploiters of illegal labor.
While I believe in the capitalist system and free enterprise, I strongly believe the government should step in at times when the welfare of the nation as a whole is jeopardized.
As a result of the global economy, Red China is turning into an economic giant with slave labor and with the active assistance of "American" corporations. Red China is monopolozing production of consumer goods and marketing them here in the U.S. with the collaboration of American companies. They are also stealing our production technology and technological expertise to produce consumer goods and compete with us in the intelligence area.
The Clinton Administration actively assisted these fiends with technological information, Bush I looked the other way after Tieneman Square, and Bush II has done nothing to address this dangerous and growing threat.
We have operated under a false premise: that improving the economy of a totalitarian regime will result in social reforms and in the long run a more secure world.
In some cases this is true.
But as in NAZI Germany, the situation in Red China is actually deteriorating as the Red Chinese get more money and employ it to build up their military establishment and weaponry instead of having it filter down to the lower ranks of their society.
The problem with illegals and their exploitation by corporate pigs and the growing threat in Red China are twin heads of a similar menace born by putting profit before national best interests.
Another "Brokeback Republican" bait-and-switch brought to you by Jorge Arbusto and the "La Raza" PANDERERS at La Hacienda Blanco!
I see Treason and Conspiracy to sell out America is like TB...it seems to be contagious in "elite enclosed spaces"!
Build an Israeli style border fence all along our Mexican border. Israelis have proven border fences can succeed
Israel's multiple fence, border fence system. This fence is designed to succeed!! Sensors, surveillance cameras, lots of barbed wire, ditches to stop vehicles from ramming through it, paved access roads for fast armed response etc etc.
... What in the world is going on in America?...
Treason.
Start here.

I think he knows how people feel about this issue, but you're right. Lets be sure.
Here's what I sent....
Dear Senator Cornyn,
If you don't want to put up an effective fence along the border with Mexico and deport every illegal invader in our country BEFORE considering any so called "guest" worker program, then I won't vote for you. Comprende?
Sincerly,
XXXXXXXX
And they will.
The only effective way to prevent illegal immigration is to remove the incentive for it. If there is no benefit to coming to the USA, they will not come. That's where our focus should be.
Remove the incentive.
No serious conservative challenged Cornyn in the 2002 Republican primary, and GOP voters were compelled to support him in the general election to succeed Phil Gramm because the Democrat choice was the liberal Ron Kirk.
That is certainly eye opening!!!
I would simply note that if opponents of a fence didn't believe it would be effective, they wouldn't bother opposing it.
Traitor is way over the top. I suggest that you consider a more accurate term for someone that you don't agree with on this issue.
