Today the President and Mrs. Bush enjoyed their second day at Prairie Chapel Ranch in Crawford, Texas. They will remain at the Ranch until the New Year. The President is looking forward to the Alito hearings and his confirmation by the end of January

IT'S ALL BUSH'S FAULT . . .
THE POLLS:
(PRESIDENT) BUSH, HILLARY MOST ADMIRED, AGAIN
Oprah Winfrey close second to Clinton
GALLUP NEWS SERVICE
PRINCETON, NJ -- President George W. Bush is the clear choice as the most admired man in Gallup's annual poll on this topic, while New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton edges out talk-show host Oprah Winfrey and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice as the most admired woman. This marks the fifth straight year that Bush has been most admired man, and the fourth straight year that Clinton has been most admired woman.
. . . Bush owes his standing this year to the fact that he is easily the consensus choice among Republicans -- 44% of Republicans mention him. Bush is also the top choice among independents, but trails Clinton among Democrats.
[DrDeb editorial comment: That almost 50% of Republicans name President Bush as the 'most admired man' is amazing; however, the fact that President Bush comes in SECOND among Democrats (higher than Jimmy Carter) is astonishing!! I certainly hope BOTH Republicans and Democrats are taking note!!!]

THE ECONOMY:
CONSUMER CONFIDENCE SOARS IN DECEMBER
By Eileen Alt Powell, AP Business Writer
Wed Dec 28, 1:23 PM ET
NEW YORK - Consumer confidence has nearly recovered from the beating it took from Hurricane Katrina and other severe storms, boding well for spending in 2006.
The Conference Board said Wednesday that declining gasoline prices and improving job opportunities boosted its Consumer Confidence Index to 103.6 in December from 98.3 in November. That was better than the 103.0 reading analysts had expected.

2006 ECONOMY LOOKS SOLID
Most forecasters see growth of at least 3 percent, which means more jobs and higher pay.
By Mark Trumbull
Staff writer of The Christian Science Monitor
A fifth straight year of economic expansion in 2006 promises to mean new jobs, higher pay, and maybe even fatter investment portfolios for millions of Americans.
Despite a backdrop of challenges - notably signs of climate change in the nation's sizzling real estate market and investor jitters over bond rates - this forecast represents a strong consensus among economists.

WAR ON TERROR/IRAQ:
OUR COMMUNICATOR-IN-CHIEF
December 28th, 2005
The conventional wisdom holds that President Bush began his campaign to inform the American public about how he intends to wage the war on terror and win in Iraq with a November 30, 2005 address at the U.S. Naval Academy. There, he launched a series of speeches, culminating with one from the Oval Office, that explained the security, economic and political aspects of his Victory In Iraq strategy. Commentators and pundits proclaimed this a welcome, though long overdue, presidential initiative. They werent paying attention.
Information warfare is defined as actions taken to achieve information superiority by affecting adversary information, information-based processes, etc., while defending ones own information
Within the context of this definition, mainstream, or legacy, media, led by the New York Times and Washington Post, can be properly defined here as purveyors of adversary information.
As commander-in-chief, President George W. Bush has led the administrations information warfare campaign in getting the word out about Iraq and the global war on terrorism, one that began well before November 30, 2005. To achieve information superiority he began telling the American people about his intentions, his plans, his goals way back in 2001.

FISA VS THE CONSTITUTION
Congress can't usurp the president's power to spy on America's enemies.
BY ROBERT F. TURNER
Wednesday, December 28, 2005 12:01 a.m. EST
In the continuing saga of the surveillance "scandal," with some congressional Democrats denouncing President Bush as a lawbreaker and even suggesting that impeachment hearings may be in order, it is important to step back and put things in historical context. First of all, the Founding Fathers knew from experience that Congress could not keep secrets. In 1776, Benjamin Franklin and his four colleagues on the Committee of Secret Correspondence unanimously concluded that they could not tell the Continental Congress about covert assistance being provided by France to the American Revolution, because "we find by fatal experience that Congress consists of too many members to keep secrets."
When the Constitution was being ratified, John Jay--America's most experienced diplomat and George Washington's first choice to be secretary of state--wrote in Federalist No. 64 that there would be cases in which "the most useful intelligence" may be obtained if foreign sources could be "relieved from apprehensions of discovery," and noted there were many "who would rely on the secrecy of the president, but who would not confide in that of the Senate." He then praised the new Constitution for so distributing foreign-affairs powers that the president would be able "to manage the business of intelligence in such manner as prudence may suggest."

THE GRAY LADY TOYS WITH TREASON
Tue Dec 27, 6:00 AM ET
Has The New York Times declared itself to be on the front line in the war against the War on Terror?
The self-styled paper of record seems to be trying to reclaim the loyalty of those radical lefties who ludicrously accused it of uncritically reporting on Saddam Hussein's weapons of mass destruction.
