Frontier Airlines Airbus 318 carrying 114 passengers and crew landed safely after being diverted shortly after takeoff from John Wayne Airport because a light indicated a cargo door was unlatched, officials said.
Flight 263, bound for Denver, took off from John Wayne Airport at 11:11 a.m. and the pilot reported that the cargo door indicator light had come on, said FAA spokesman Mike Fergus. The plane was directed to burn off its excess fuel and return to John Wayne Airport.
Emergency equipment and personnel from the Orange County Fire Authority were positioned at the John Wayne runway in case of an accident, but they were told to stand down at about 11:25 a.m. when the flight was diverted to Los Angeles International Airport.

How wise is that? Shouldn't the pilot cut off TV coverage during an emergency?
The first time I experienced it I was sure the plane was going into the Pacific. I can only imagine what it would've been like throwing an open cargo door into the mix.
I have to give you that one - Newport Beach snobs endangering not just airline passengers, but themselves when you think about it - I wonder how many planes have experienced problems because of those regulations?
I need to experience that.
How many Airbus incidents have there been over the past few months?
Was that stuck landing gear an Airbus?
Yeah, it was an Airbus, but I don't know if it was the same model. A week after that nosegear incident, an Airbus made a "high speed" landing back east after its flaps failed to extend all the way.
It must be some Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy to boost Boeing's stock price ;
Fun but not an E-Ticket.
Technically, there are no more "E tickets" here in Orange County.
Trust me you don't....LOL
In other news, looking outside my office window, John Wayne airport looks like it is still operating smoothly (and I just LOVE that our airport is named after the Duke ; )
What do you think about cutting off TV coverage to passengers during an emergency landing?
ahh you have to pay for this service $5.00 per segment. I don't think many would do this.
Not much of an emergency...the door was open...move on..nothing here...save your prayers for a real deal!!!
They diverted a jet from Newport Beach?
That's where John Wayne is.
Ping
Yes, John Wayne airport is near Newport Beach (I think Irvine, technically).
Luckily, the door was NOT open ; )
I mean John Wayne himself is in Newport Beach (Pacific View Memorial Park).
