In Britain fried tomatoes are different to Green Fried Tomatoes I believe with yours they have flour and spices in them. Our fried tomatoes are literally just that a bit of oil and tomatoes fried in a frying pan.

Alternatively you can grill or as you say broil them. Tinned ones are often boiled on a low heat until hot.

The best fried tomatoes are fried with salt, pepper, and yellow corn meal.

Also good--slice a tomato, put mayo on both sides and dip in cracker crumbs. But --they have to be eaten immediately, of course, or they become soggy.

All this is even better if you have a friend who grows tomatoes that actually have taste and don't just add color to a salad. lol!

Very true modern tomatoes often do not have much taste unless you can get some home grown ones.

Though having said that the local supermarkets have started to sell tomatoes still on the vine and they do have some flavour but of course are very expensive.
