The sexes have different needs for approval from society, for example. That women are by nature more thoroughly socialized than men would be accepted by most here.

Your theory is "shallow." There are most likely even more powerful reasons some women in Sacramento are converting to Islam. Such as perhaps a yearning for a religion and people who hold more traditional values and more traditional roles of men and women. Similar to the men on this forum and elsewhere who prefer Asian women over American women.
