The new space race has touched down in Kent, where Amazon.com billionaire Jeff Bezos is building a rocket-ship complex set to open early next year.
Blue Origin, Bezos' aerospace company, will use the facility to design and build spacecraft and engines. The company's near-term goal is to develop a vehicle that can take passengers on a thrill ride to the edge of space.
But eventually, Bezos has said, he wants to build spaceships powerful enough to orbit the Earth. He even hopes to establish permanent colonies in space someday.

Well, he should have a good supply of people with aerospace experience in this area.
I have more faith in Bezos than I do with Musk... He is doing it slow and I like his long term goals..
Not sure there are many aerospace engineers left in the area with the 787 ramping up.
But that said, if people like Bezos and Paul Allen with SpaceShipOne and Branson with Virgin Galactic are placing bets on these ventures, I think these ultra-bright ultra-successful entreprenurs have something going! Do you know if they are offering any public stock? LOL!
Clearly the companies which will win the private space race will be the ones that concentrate on reentry vehicles. I think that's where Rutan sees the race, and to that end he innovated the third known method of reentry.
Paying customers will be scarce (especially at first), and having the reentry vehicle come back to the surface, safely, every time, will be a biggie. :')
