Bikini? No, burqini
Herald Sun ^ | 12/25/2005 | Sue Hewitt

ITSY-BITSY, teeny-weeny bikinis are common -- but now multicultural Australia has head-to-foot "burqinis".

Designer Aheda Zanetti calls the outfit an "Islamic bikini" because it has pants and a top.

She said the costume, marketed under the name Ahiida and available on the internet, covered everything except hands, feet and face.

She said it had a "hijood", named after the traditional hijab. Mother-of-four Adeeba Nabulsi said the outfit allowed her to swim with her children in mixed-sex public pools.

Yes, actually. Clothes should fit the function. If you intend to swim, you should be wearing minimum amount of clothing to reduce weight and drag. It's simple physics.

In the interests of sun protection and modesty, I tried swimming in a surf shirt and men's swimming trunks which reached my knees.

In the interests of being able to swim without wallowing around in fabric, I now wear a one-piece and lots of sunscreen.

I don't now how men can stand swimming in those loose trunks but I'd honestly rather not see any man, no matter how good-looking and fit, in one of those skimpy little Euro jobs.

There are plenty of Christians calling for modest clothing, too.

But no Christians excusing gang rape because of immodest dress, and no gangs of Christians roaming the streets calling "immodest" women whores, and no Christians demanding that women wear veils, or be required to stay indoors, etc. etc. etc.

Thanks for your contributions. This has been an interesting thread. I am also an advocate of modestry for BOTH sexes, but I'd rather convince people (and suffer bouts of harrassment) than force it on them as well.

Don't look at me!

I'm the one who believes you can wear whatever you want--
within the constrains of the law of wherever you are....
and mostly ONLY and I mean
ONLY IF YOU WANT to wear it.

Personally, that dress looks like a very cheap and badly made polyester waitress uniform for Denny's or sumpthin.

The Burqini is OK, IF a woman wants to wear it and is happy wearing it. Same with the burqa....the issue with it is that it's a requirement, not a right.

The really funny thing about that thread is that nobody is requiring anyone to wear this Burquina thingie. It was created by the woman in the photo...a clothing designer. It's for sale on the web.

In Australia, there are no dress codes for the beach. And there are some mighty attractive Australian women on those beaches, wearing virtually nothing.

So, this Muslim woman has designed bathing garb for Muslim women who wear the Burqua. She's selling them, not forcing women to put the things on.

Two issues are being conflated in this thread.

Some women actually choose to wear a burqa at times. It's a great way to be 'invisible'. Seriously, if you want to get from point a to point b without being noticed, it works ;)

ANYHOW, there comes a moment in everyone's life when you get out of the bathtub, look in the mirror and realize that most of you should never be seen in public again ;)

Right you are. My Greek God days are long past. Gravity has taken its inevitable toll. I'm not overweight, but stuff sags. Getting old sucks, sometimes. But, ah, well, life is sweet anyhow.

SO you gave up going to the beach because of too many girls in too little?

You need some private space at the beach. Here is how to create your very own private space.

First, get and learn to use a 12 wt. fly rod. Then tie yourself a few Privacy flies. The pattern is simple and doesn't even have a hook (remember - no hook!).

Take a strip of nylon reinfoced vinyl fabric (awning material) and cut a four inch long, narrow strip. Sew in a small reinforced hole, much like a button hole at one end. This is where you tie on the Privacy Fly to your tippet.

Note that I did not specify a class tippet - there are those who contend that the use of flies such as this is antithetical to any class. Indeed, one can make a case that such use is proof of no class whatsoever. But in another sense, that arguement would be declasse.

To use the Privacy Fly, make sure that the forward cast is so timed (started too soon, so that the line has not completely straightened out behind you) as to ensure the fly to make a loud "crack" when the forward cast begins.

Repitition of this cast usually ensures that you have ample space to yourself.

PS Use a very cheap rod, just in case the cutie napping on the beach towel is a conbat vet prone to acute flash back syndrome. syndrome.

You need extensive therapy if you're looking at young women in malls that way.

What? To turn me queer?

This is about forcing and demanding that everyone dress according to a deranged savage's idea of needing outside help to control his psychopathic impulses, or else be subject to rape with impunity by barbarians.

You said it. The burka and hajib are NOT about modesty as we understand it. They are about controlling women and making them 100% responsible for the sexual behavior of men. Islam doesn't seek to create modest women. It seeks to create compliant, submissive women and the clothing issue is but one element in service of that twisted desire.

The moral decadence of Americans exposing a little skin is nothing to the moral decadence of Islam raping and killing women for showing a little skin.

Never said it was. America's decadence goes far beyond exposing a "little skin."

If anyone wants to tell my wife how to dress they can take the g-string from my cold dead fingers.

Amen! The day these demented freaks try to confiscate my bikini is the day I flounce down the street buck naked, shouting, "They're real and they're spectacular," at the top of my lungs.

Islams decacence is far deeper than the majority of Americans. If you don't like our decadence then leave, perhaps you could go to Iran or Saudi Arabia.

You are aware that the genesis of the recent mass riots in Sydney Australia was the habit of muslim men kicking sand on Aussie girls in Western-style swimsuits, cursing them, calling them whores and sluts, and demanding that they cover up?

You are aware of that, aren't you?

When I went to that website you noted this is not what I saw. They feature very skimpy swimwear.

I think modest swimwear is great for those who want to stay covered but still want to get out and enjoy the pool or beach.
