KIEV, December 24 (Itar-Tass) - Leader of united social democrats Viktor Medvedchuk called on the government led by Yuri Yekhanurov to resign.
Medvedchuk told journalists on Saturday, The Ukrainian government should resign. This will be a worthy response to increasing gas prices by Russia.
In his view, not only politicians but also all Ukrainian people understand that the government led by Yuri Yekhanurov failed to settle gas disagreements with Russia.
On Friday, Yekhanurov instructed Naftogaz Ukrainy to draft an appeal to the Stockholm Court of Arbitration in connection with the conflict with Russias Gazprom gas giant. I ask you to draft an appeal, he said.
Economics Minister Arseny Yatsenyuk said Russian natural gas prices for Ukraine higher than 100-150 U.S. dollars per 1,000 cubic metres can be regarded as discrimination. An increase of gas prices by four-five times would be obviously viewed as economic discrimination, he said.
An average gas price for the region is 100-150 U.S. dollars, Yatsenyuk said. A deviation from this proportion may be viewed as discrimination, he said.
Ukrainian-Russian agreements on social and economic cooperation and free trade provide for the avoidance of measures that may affect each others economies.
Yekhanurov said Ukraine reserves a right to appeal to the Stockholm Court of Arbitration in case the gas delivery and transit contract between Gazprom and Naftogaz Ukrainy is reviewed.
We have a contract and any problems should be resolved in the Stockholm Court. So far we have not received written notifications about the termination of the contract. On the contrary, we have been assured that the contract remains valid. I hope we will retain civilised relations in the future, he said.
Meanwhile, Gazprom Deputy CEO Alexander Medvedev said 230 U.S. dollars per 1,000 cubic metres would be the initial gas price for Ukraine for January 1, 2006.
Gas transit charges should be coordinated annually, Medvedev said. This is equivalent to our European contracts.
We have offered Ukraine a transitional way, in which Kiev would fill the gap between monetary payments for gas it is prepared to make and the European gas price with shares of the gas transport consortium, Medvedev said. These documents were signed at the summit level two and a half years ago, but Ukraine has been delaying a decision, he said.
So when will the Kremlin abandon communist behavior and starts to respect contracts that they are signing themselves? Answer = Probably when the first non-communist president will be elected in Russia.
In other words, Social Democratic Party says Ukrainians should surrender to Russia and become a puppet.
The same as Progressive Socialist Party of Ukraine, Communist Party of Ukraine and primary Russian puppet party in this country lead by Yanukovich. What all these parties have in common?
Is it that they are not part of the People's Progressive Liberation Party! Which is in no way related to the Liberation Communist Party of Socialists or the much bally-hooed People's Socialist Liberation Party or the Communist People's Liberation Front. However, if they are part of the Communist Liberation Front of Socialists then they could be part of the Socialist's Progressive People's Communist Party ... or ... maybe they are all just a bunch of Democrats.
There seems to be disagreement regarding the contract, with many reports that the current one ends January 1. Regardless, the price Gazprom is offering the Ukraine is far lower than we have in America at $14.06 per 1,000 cubic feet.
LOL Maybe they should think about it before they signed this contract?
The Yamal-Europe pipeline project should be on line in 2006 delivering 33 billion cubic meters of natural gas to Europe through Belorussia and Poland.
They are building this pipeline so slowly that I can imagine how much time they need to build further projects.
A second trunk increasing throughput to 66 billion cubic meters per year is scheduled to be on line in 2010.
Probably they will be no second trunk.
A further North European project running in Russia on land to Vyborg and then on the Baltic sea floor delivering 54 billion cubic meters of natural gas directly to Germany has an optimistic target date of 2010 for phase number one.
Actually there is no even a meter of this pipeline. So what seriously Russians think that they will going to do?
